Nutrition is the study of nutrients in food, how the body uses them, and the relationship between diet, health, and disease. A Nutritionist is a qualified and skilled professional who evaluates clients’ needs to identify their dietary requirements and restrictions. They use their expert knowledge of nutrition and food to help others make better healthy food choices. Their duties include creating meal plans, training the public and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
To become a Nutritionist after 12th, aspiring students must pursue Undergraduate and Postgraduate Nutrition Science Courses from any of the top Nutrition Colleges across the country. Entrance to these colleges is done both on the basis of Entrance Exams and on merit as well. The average time duration for becoming a Nutritionist usually comes around 4-5 years, which includes gaining relevant qualifications and mastering associated skills like interpersonal skills, and excellent communication and presentation skills.
Nutritionists are employed across all major hospitals, nursing homes, government health departments, schools, fitness centres, health product companies etc. for suggesting diet charts to patients. The average salary of a Nutritionist in India is around INR 3.5 LPA, whereas for experienced candidates it is INR 7 LPA – 8 LPA.
