BTech Geosciences Engineering: What is it about?

  • BTech Geosciences Engineering is a 4 year UG course with emphasis on development of the ability to analyse, synthesise and design open-ended petroleum engineering systems.
  • The course deals with evaluating and solving technical problems related to exploration and production of hydrocarbon reservoirs, from regional to reservoir scale.
  • It also interprets and integrates different types of geological, geophysical and engineering data.
  • This course  is beneficial for all those who aspire to study further courses such as M.E./M.Tech, M.Phil and Ph.D.
  • The average fee for this course is around INR 60,000 to INR 1,50,000.

Why BTech Geosciences Engineering?

  • Throughout this course, students spend much of their time developing ways to improve the way people use land and natural resources. Students gain strong critical thinking and analysis, and be able to work well in a team.
  • Geoscience Engineering Professionals often work full time in an office environment. While they may travel to site for observation, most professionals use computers and information software to analyze data and complete projects.
  • BTech Geoscience Engineering students can pursue internships or summer jobs within the field while working towards their degree.
  • Graduates of this course may determine where to put in a dam or tunnel, the best way to harvest natural resources, or how to build buildings that can withstand earthquakes; this makes problem solving and ingenuity required skills.
  • They work at a variety of locations, often within the construction or architecture fields. Since graduates are knowledgeable about many aspects of the environment and how they interact with human engineering, there are many career options available.

BTech Geosciences Engineering: Admission Process

  • Step 1: Students should complete their high school with the science stream and choose physics, chemistry, and maths as the major subjects. Students should also be prepared for the entrance test along with the preparation for the boards in 10+2.
  • Step 2: The admission process starts with the commencement of entrance exams after the final exams of senior secondary in the month of May. Students are required to apply either through the online portals of individual colleges, if available, or through offline mode.
  • Step 3: The entrance exams are conducted at different levels i.e., national level, state level, and institutional level. Students should primarily prepare for the national entrance test. A student can prepare for the state entrance exam according to the state of the college to be chosen of his or her choice.
  • Step 4: Many colleges conduct their own entrance exam followed by centralized counselling which are to be cleared by the student seeking admission.
  • Step 5: Various institutes provide management quota seats, however, the fees through the same are quite high. Once the shortlisted students’ list is out, they need to get the documentation verified and the fees paid within the dates mentioned.

BTech Geosciences Engineering: Eligibility Criteria

  • To be eligible for B.Tech. Geo Sciences Engineering course a student has to either give an entrance exam of the respective college they want to study in or have to pass in exams like JEE Main for the admission.

BTech Geosciences Engineering: Entrance Exams

Various universities conduct their individual entrance exams usually in the month of May. The entrance exams conducted are based on questions asked from the field of mathematics, physics, chemistry, English language comprehension, current affairs and general awareness. The tests are usually MCQ based which also have negative marking from 0.25 to 1 mark for each wrong answer.

  • JEE: Joint Entrance Examination, is an academic examination held annually in India. It is conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board.
  • LPUNEST: Lovely Professional University National Eligibility and Scholarship Test (LPUNEST) is conducted by Lovely Professional University (LPU) every year. It is a university level examination that is held once in a year for admission of candidates to various courses available at the university.

BTech Geosciences Engineering: Preparation Tips to get Top College

  • To get into a good college, candidates must first appear for an entrance examination. JEE Main is the widely acceptable entrance test, and most of the engineering colleges in India accept JEE Mains score for B. Tech admissions.
  • Apart from JEE Main, state-level engineering entrance exams are also popular among students. However, state-level engineering entrance exams are confined to a specific state.
  • Candidates must make a list of the pros and cons of the engineering institutes they are considering, and rate them out of 10 against different aspects of college life like affordability, distance from home, teacher-student ratio, college infrastructure and the facilities available.
  • Certain colleges carefully assess high school grades, courses, test scores, essays, activities, recommendations, and interviews, if required.
  • Candidates will increase their chances of getting into the colleges of their choice by- getting the best possible grades in 10+2, taking academically rigorous classes, spending sufficient time and developing college essays.
  • Preparing for on-campus interviews if required by colleges and most importantly starting their college search early-on.

College Events

There are numerous faces an event celebrated in my college ranging from workshops seminars conferences and technical and non-technical-based competitions and events which I believe contribute to the overall development of a student many of our fests are organized by the student chapters and they inculcate a good experience of skills like presentation skills organizational skills in our self

Campus Life

The college has a good amount of extracurricular activities and labs which are well equipped and also funded by the government of India in terms of the Sportsweek facilities we have full-fledged basketball court football coat and tennis court moreover we also have a multi activity center known as Mac where we have kind of a lounge where we can sit and enjoy with your friends

Campus Life

The students come from all over India from different caste, so we can see the diversity in the campus her the boys is to girls ratio is quite shocking somewhat around 9:1 we have various inter hall events like in debates dance singing cricket and various games so we can find here students busy either in studies or doing some extracurricular activities.

Fees and Financial Aid

There is a great scholarship facility offered by the collage because this collage is a government body so we are receiving more scholarship facility than any other collages we have 100% fee wavier for students coming from very poor backgrounds loans are provided by some of the banks at very cheap rates as we are part of such a prestigious institute.

Ques. Should I choose NSIT CSE or IIT Delhi Civil?

● Top Answer By Shrija on 09 Jul 24

Ans. I am a Civil Engineering student at IIT Delhi.  Even though CoE/ CSE/ IT are much more sought after by students in the present times, I would choose Civil at IIT Delhi over CoE at NSUT.  Here are the reasons for the same: The faculty at IIT Delhi is much more experienced and learned than that at NSUT. IIT Delhi was established in 1961, while NSUT in 1983. Because of this, IIT Delhi has a stronger alumni network. IIT Delhi is a globally recognized brand, while NSUT is usually only known to students of North India. The “IIT” brand is immensely helpful when applying to foreign universities for higher studies.  Although civil freshers are rarely in demand, a civil engineer with enough work experience, the right set of skills, and great project accomplishments is paid a high salary. These are the 2023 placement figures for both these institutions: Particulars IIT DELHI  NSUT  Median CTC -   INR 17 LPA (B.Tech) Average CTC INR 17.60 LPA (Overall)   - % Batch placed 84.94% (Overall)   (Students Placed in B.Tech: 977) Top Recruiters   Google, Deloitte, BCG, HCL Technologies, Lenskart, Flipkart, etc.    (2024) Unfortunately, the branch-wise placement detail is not available for both these institutes.    However, based on the various reasons listed above, I would recommend you choose IIT Delhi Civil Engineering over NSUT CoE.Read more
