Class 8 Science Chapter 12 Friction: Important Topics

Friction is the force that resists the relative motion of material elements, solid surfaces, and fluid layers from rolling or sliding against each other. Friction basically arises from the action of irregularities of the harder surface plowing across the softer one. Frictional forces, like the traction needed to walk without slipping, may be beneficial, but they also present a great measure of opposition to motion.

  • Factors Affecting Friction

The frictional force between two bodies is based mainly on three factors: (I) the adhesion between body surfaces (ii) roughness of the surface (iii) deformation of bodies.
