Motion of an object is perceived when its position changes continuously with respect to some stationary object. Terms such as distance,displacment, speed, velocity and acceleration are all related to the concept of motion. In physics, Motion is classified into two broad categories such as Uniform and Non-uniform motion. 

Vector and Scalar Quantities

Vector can be defined as a quantity that includes both magnitude and direction. A scalar quantity, in the meantime, does not have any relevant direction but includes magnitude.

Example of Vector Quantity: Force and displacement are examples of Vector Quantities.
Example of Scalar Quantity: Mass, temperature, and time are all examples of Scalar Quantities.

Displacement

Displacement refers to shortest distance between an the initial and final position of an object. Displacement is known to carry a direction and vector quantity. 

Displacement can be expressed by Δx. Hence, the Formula of Displacement is:
Δx = xf − x0

Here,
xf = Final position of the object
x0 = Starting position of the object

Velocity

Velocity is expressed as an object’s speed in a specific direction. Velocity is a vector quantity. Its SI unit is respresented as Metre (m).

The formula of Velocity is: Velocity = Displacement/Time
