The scientific name of bears is Ursidae. Bears are mammals which are dominantly present in both hemispheres. They are said to be carnivores, however a few bear species such as pandas also consume plants and fruits. Their habitats include North America, South America, Europe, Asia and northern- most polar regions.

Bears belong to the order Carnivora and Family Ursidae, which also makes up for their scientific name and ursus is the genus. Many species of bears save energy during the winters by hiberative at various locations such as caves, hollowed out trees, and dens which they have dug in prior years.
