What Students Say
Likes
- The university that I choose is listed among one of the top 9 Technical Universities of Germany. The course was really good. The university is located in Stuttgart which is the automotive hub of Germany. There are lot of startups and companies like Diamler, Bosch, Mercedes Benz AG and etc. which makes it easier to get a working student job while studying. This covers living and food expenses. Students can work upto 80 hours per month. Since Stuttgart is a major city, the public transport is great and you don’t need a car to move around. Major part this course was taught in English, it was an international course. The University took care of our accommodation so I was very relaxed and my moving from India to Germany was very smooth. They also assigned a study buddy (a German senior student) to pick me up from airport and bring me to my dorm room.
- The university campus is great, it’s located right above the metro station which makes it very easier to reach the university. The student dorms are located in the vicinity of a Kilometer. For international students there are lot of inclusion programs and orientation programs to help them navigate through the university departments and to feel at home. The university also offers interactive German language courses. There is also an international centre that comes up with various events and excursions to familiarise the international students with German culture. The university has a copy centre to get Print-outs at subsidised prizes. There is a student canteen that provides food at subsidised price for the students. Every student enrolled gets a travel pass that be used from 6:00pm onwards till 6:00 am next day in the week days and can used 24 hours on weekends. Other than that university campus has got a small forest adjacent to it. Where students can go cycling, trekking walking etc. there are also some lakes also near by. Overall the campus life is very nice.
Dislikes
- There is nothing major to dislike about. Only thing is that Masters in Technical Universities can take more than 2 years. It’s almost impossible to finish the course in two years. Also information technology course can get complex sometimes. The number of courses in the specialisation are overwhelming, sometimes it becomes hard to choose courses as all are great courses and it’s not possible to do everything. So one really need to be careful while choosing courses as it makes a difference when one is looking for jobs.
Required Exams for Admission
My overall experience was excellent. It’s not just about studies but my exposure to different types of people and different cultures made me a better person. It gave me confidence that I can navigate through any situation in my life. I also learnt and watched technology, it’s good and bad side very closely. I could also develop critical thinking and think in more research oriented way. I got acquainted with German culture and their love for design perfection and discipline inspires me.
Course Curriculum
The course is very updated and very relevant to the industry. The University and some companies collaborate together for some research projects. For example BCAI ( Bosch centre for Artificial Intelligence) has tied up with university of Stuttgart. Student can work there masters thesis around such collaborations. I was lucky to work with Bosch as a working student and also worked for some other companies like BEC GmbH and Kaiser + Kraft GmbH while studying.
Faculty
The faculty to student ration is approximately 1:25. They all are PH.D. holders and German university professors have to work hard and have to think in a research oriented way to become professors. They are easily approachable and always clarify doubts. Some professors who impacted me are - Marc Toussiant, Andrey Morozov, Marco Aiello and Martin Radetzki.
Campus Life
There are student pubs around the campus, weekly round table conferences where people can discuss anything. There is green team and anyone who are green energy enthusiasts can join the team and work in their research. There are pub crawling event where a group of students are taken to various pubs in the city. There are all kinds of sports club which anyone can join for a fees of 30-40 euros per semester.
Placement
Campus placements doesn’t happen like in India. There are job fairs though, where the students get information about companies that are available and their projects. Students can develop their network through these job fairs and later apply for jobs in these companies through their network.
Accommodation
I stayed in student dorms offered by studierendenwerk. It’s a government body that provides hostels and rooms for a subsidised price for students. There are 3 types of rooms. One is a 3 or 4 room apartment where 3 or 4 people share kitchen, bathroom and common space. The cleans of bathrooms and kitchens have to be shared among the residents. Second is 3-5 floor buildings where each floor has 11 rooms. Each person gets a room. There eleven members share the kitchen and bathrooms. The bathrooms are cleaned weekly by studierendenwerk but kitchen has to be cleaned by the floor mates. I stayed in one of these rooms. I like these rooms because you get to meet various students from different cultures and countries living in your floor. 3rd kind is studio apartments. You have a small kitchen and bathroom attached to your room. Here everything the resident needs to clean. The rent is between 300-400 euros per month depending upon the type of room. Irrespective of whichever type of room it is, each room has a study table, chair, shelf to store, room heater and a cupboard to store clothes. Wifi is provided by a provider called self-net at a subsidised price for students. Their office is near the dorms so students don’t need to wander hear and there. In Germany, water heating is available all around the year, 24x7 even in kitchen sink taps. The water can be used for cooking and drinking purpose from the cold side tap of the kitchen sink.
Exams
Just TOEFL or IELTS is enough. I had a internet based TOEFL score of 104/120. I had 3 years of work experience and a bachelors degree in electronics and communication with a CGPA of 8.6. CV and LOR are enough. The University didn’t ask for any SOP.
Fees
1770 euros per semester.
Scholarship
No I didn’t receive any scholarship. In Germany you don’t need one. As in many German universities there is no tuition fees.
