Course Curriculum

8

  • The curriculum was mainly theoretical and very technically challenging.
  • The course sets you up well with the foundation and then goes very in depth with the advanced topics as well as high end mathematics. Sometimes this can get a little too theoretical for students.
  • Typically we had 3-4 classes per day from 8am to 1pm with an average of 20 students in the class. In that batch almost 85% were Indians.

Admission Experience

  • Esslingen, TUM, Ingolstadt, RWTH - Rejection
    Stuttgart, Hamburg - Accepted

  • The universities that rejected me cited a lack of professional experience as the reason for rejection considering I applied right after bachelors. In some cases, they also cited inadequacy of credits in specific courses shown on the transcript which could have been otherwise satisfied also by previous work experience.
  • Very strong course in Computational Mechanics and good industry exposure.
  • The admission process is relatively straightforward - prepare documents such as SOPs, LORs and transcripts. This is followed by submitting them online and finally waiting for the decision.
  • University of Stuttgart didn't have any requirement except for the standard professional proficiency requirements for TOEFL/IELTS.
  • The admission experience was very straightforward however sometimes they might take some time to release decisions.
  • Winter 2022. The strong foundation in computational mechanics was important in taking up this course along with the fact that Stuttgart is a great hub for mechanical engineering exposure. A lot of OEMs also exist here that provide many opportunities.
  • I submitted my application in November 2021 and got the results approximately in May 2022 with 2 status updates.

Faculty

6

  • The faculty to student ratio is approximately 1:20 which makes the communication in class very strong and clear. The faculty have a very strong background in their subjects and test you in a strong way.
  • The course content and teaching approach could lean to a little more of a practical approach so as to better prepare us for securing a job within our fields.
  • Faculty members take up students for research assistant jobs which help a lot with exposure. Faculty members at the IBB institute are really good.

Campus Life

8

  • My university has two campuses, one of them is in Vaihingen and the other one is in the city centre. The campus has all the required facilities such as the library sports facilities and football and basketball grounds as well as medical services 24/7.
  • The university always has cultural events and parties going on from time to time, especially once hosted by the dormitory accommodations. There are also project teams for technical and non-technical fields that are running year around.

Part Time Jobs

  • There is no cap for the number of students that can be taken in by these roles. Typically the parents depends on the hours per month that a student works but the opportunity is there to work from between 20 to 80 hours per month at a minimum wage of 13 Euros per hour.  in a month a student can work a total of 80 hours. It is not so difficult to secure these jobs, you just need to set up your profile and talk to the professor proving that you have the relevant experience needed to work in these roles.
  • On an hourly basis a student can earn between 13 to 14 euros per hour. It is not too difficult to secure this kind of employment while studying at the university because the requirement isn't that high. The procedure is to search for the job openings set up your CV and profile for the role email the professors run the interview with the professors and finally start the role

Placement

8

  • As of now there is a recession in the market so it's proving quite difficult to secure employment. Perhaps less than 50% of the batch secures industry based employment at the moment with an average salary of 40-50k EUR per year.
  • Normal forms of recruitment are via online portals, internships and networking in general. My seniors have been placed in companies like EDAG as well as industrial PhDs. No major companies as such have a specific target for graduates from this course.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I found the accommodation via the university website and then via the accommodation website. The monthly rent is 350 EUR for a single room with attached sink and internet connection.
  • The bathroom, toilet and kitchen are shared between the entire floor of 14 occupants. I would recommend always applying very early for accommodation so as to get a confirmed contract.
  • The accommodation is right on campus, a 5 mins walk from academic buildings and lost Indian students stay here.

Exams

  • TOEFL/IELTS with a professional working proficiency level.
  • Well written SOP, LOR, CV, Transcripts as well as passport documentation is required.
  • No interview process was part of this application process

Fees

  • Semester fee taken per semester: 1600 including 200 EUR transport subsidy. This includes the tuition fee per semester.
  • Hostel fee: 350 EUR per month including WiFi connection and heating expenses
  • Rough monthly expense: 500-700 EUR
  • Transport fee per month: 40 EUR
  • Hostel fees can also depend on the type of dork and accommodation, ranging from 280 EUR to 400 EUR

Scholarship

  • The DE Stipendium is available. I didn't receive it but it's based on your academics and extra curriculars with strong grades required. You must be within 2 years of your course program as well.
  • The scholarship is 300 EUR or so per month and some of my batch mates did obtain it. Hundreds of students get it in the university. Apart from this, there were also students with Indian scholarships such as from Tata.
