IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Textile Technology has impressive placement stats, with over 90% of students getting placed and some packages reaching 2.5 crore LPA, which is quite attractive. However, IIT Roorkee’s B.Tech in Electrical Engineering also boasts strong placement records, especially with big tech companies often recruiting in droves. Given that Roorkee generally has a broader appeal in terms of industries and roles available, I’d say it edges out slightly in job prospects. If you’re leaning towards tech or core engineering roles, IIT Roorkee might be a better fit, while IIT Delhi is great for those looking to pursue niche areas in textiles and startups.

The actual placement numbers are not typically disclosed, but the highest and lowest figures are known, giving a rough idea of the scenario. This year, only 30 percent of students who participated in placements secured jobs. The highest package offered is 35 LPA, while the lowest stands at 6 LPA. The average salary is around 10–11 LPA. Many well-known companies visited the campus, offering roles such as junior analyst, fresher engineer, and more.

The internship situation is notably better compared to placements. The highest stipend offered so far is 1 LPA per month, with the lowest at 15k per month.

Most students tend to opt for non-core companies during placements. Many of these non-core firms do not have specific branch criteria; they primarily consider CGPA and extracurricular activities. Here’s a list of some of those companies:

  • Consultancies: McKinsey, BCG, Bain, KPMG, Deloitte, PwC, etc. (except EY)
  • Analytics: Fractal Analytics, etc.
  • Banks: Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, Capital One, etc.
  • Start-ups: Flipkart, Rocket Internet group of start-ups, etc.

While this data may not be exact, it provides a fair overview. Good luck!

If you're getting into Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi, placements shouldn't even be a concern. Students from Textile Technology also secure great placements. It’s IIT DELHI! Power and automation are solid branches. There will be plenty of opportunities to take other minors or electives. After four years, if you want to enter core electrical or software companies (most B.Tech graduates lean towards analyst, consulting, finance, etc.), you’ll have ample opportunities. Trust me, you won’t regret your choice!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Textile Technology and IIT Roorkee's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering offer unique financial prospects. IIT Delhi has a higher fee structure, around 13-14 lakhs for four years, but boasts a high placement rate with average packages around 20 LPA and the highest hitting 2.5 CR LPA, which indicates a strong ROI. Conversely, IIT Roorkee's Electrical Engineering program typically attracts more companies and may lead to higher average salaries, making it a smart choice for those prioritizing immediate financial returns. However, if you’re interested in a less competitive environment with good placement opportunities, IIT Delhi could be the better pick for a balanced campus experience. Overall, pick IIT Roorkee for robust electrical engineering prospects and IIT Delhi if you're leaning towards textiles with a solid campus life.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Textile Technology offers a solid curriculum with excellent faculty and a great campus life, but it seems to lack the intense placement competition and variety that IIT Roorkee's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering provides. While IIT Delhi has impressive internship opportunities and a high placement rate, IIT Roorkee typically sees a broader range of companies visiting for placements, particularly in tech and engineering. If you're looking for a more relaxed course with a focus on textiles, IIT Delhi could be your choice, but if you want the thrill of a high-stakes engineering program with potentially better job offers, IIT Roorkee is the way to go. Personally, I'd lean towards IIT Roorkee for the overall experience and future opportunities.
