College with good values

Overall I have had a great college life. My life was balanced as I managed academics and extra curricular activities well. Whenever I needed any help the college faculties were by my side. Not to forget I got to meet a lot of friends and seniors. Thankful

I got admitted to this college via AIEEE exam and my rank was AIR 52500. Unfortunately I couldn't get into the top premier govt. colleges, but if we look among the pvt. colleges this one comes in the top 10. The college is located on the roadside near Haldirams VIP Road. Buses are available to almost all parts of Kolkata and communication isn't a problem. This college has had an excellent placement record with most MNCs visiting every year. They have had good qualified faculties over the years. No sign of ragging now.

The college follows the syllabus laid down by Maulana Abul Kalam University of Technology ( previously known as WBUT ). 2 class tests are conducted every semester and there are ample of lab classes. The course covers almost all the subjects required by a Computer Science Engineer in the Undergrad level.

The college doesn't provide internship opportunities in-house to all the students. Only those who are the top performers get selected in TCS to undertake a project work. However, the college has tied up with Globsyn, Ardent, TIME to provide courses that are of industry standards and help in placements. If you are looking for an internship, it's better to look on our own. The college however does give NOC to pursue outside.

In our batch, Cognizant and Infosys came in zero slot. Cognizant had selected 115 students and the package was about 3 LPA. Infosys had selected 132 students out of total of about 350 students and they offered 3.25 LPA. 2 students got placed in ITC Infotech with package of 3.3 LPA. Lot of pool campussing took place in our college. Some of the students got placed in iGate, Bosch. From off some got placed in Wipro and TCS. The unplaced students too got selected at the end in various companies. So, overall the placement season was quite good with most of the students getting placed in reputed companies.

The college holds an inter-college tech fest every year and an English Language fest. Students from KIIT, VIT, JU and from many govt. and pvt. colleges participate. Cultural fest also happens. It was last held in 2013 in Axis Mall and Swabhumi grounds. The events that comprise a tech fest are Innovation, Robotics, Fanta C, NFS, FIFA, Counter Strike, etc. I had participated in Innovation event and I ranked 1st. English Language fest will develop your vocabulary and speaking skills.

For the 1st year our fees was approx Rs. 75000 that included admission fees, Institute fund and laptop charge of about Rs. 22000. But now laptop is optional. Per semester fees thereon is Rs. 42000 to Rs. 44000 at the end of 4th year. Rs. 10000 will be charged as security deposit and will be eventually refunded.

The West Bengal Govt. do provide full and half freeship schemes. The loans are also available from banks, better consult with the Accounts Dept during admission. It really helps students who need financial assistance.

There are adequate labs in the campus ranging from computer department to electrical and mechanics. Sports like football and cricket tournaments take place every year. Various competitions are held which are part of the inter college fests. Tech fests are organized every year with students from all the country participate. Various workshops and seminars are conducted on variety of topics. There is no discrimination based on gender or religion. Through fests you can meet a lot of students and get to know many things. Your skills come into action and through English Language Fest you nurture good speaking and debating skills. Overall, the environment is quite healthy and competitive.

Well, I did not take the hostel facility. But from what I have heard from my friends the hostel is not too good but it's okay. Most of the students look to stay in mess which are available nearby.

During my journey I got to meet a lot of seniors and were helpful. The college sometimes bring in alumni and arrange an interaction with them who are now settled in top MNCs and residing abroad. Those tips may come handy.

The labs are very frequent and they appear in your routine daily. Yes they are quite hectic with so many subjects. For an odd semester you get less time because of the fest and pujas. Lot of subjects have to be completed in the 2nd and 3rd year and later

Some of the faculties are quite experienced and knowledgeable. If you come across any difficulty they will help you out. Our HOD was too helpful. The college will arrange extra classes and special classes during placement.
