Remarks
Positive remarks - Good staff, ample of opportunities, 75% attendance implies you to attend compulsorily, industrial training (incase of instrumentation branch), seminars, only one class of 60 students. Negatives - Placement scenario needs immediate attention for improvement. Canteen has poor seating arrangements, food is average. My overall personal experience was good with this college. I did manage to have an average attendance of 85% over four years. For Instrumentation, it's better for you to attend lectures as there's no specific study material, almost all are reference books mentioned in syllabus.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is well designed by the experienced faculties teaching Instrumentation Engineering under Mumbai University. Recently, their has been changes in the curriculum so as to meet industrial needs. There are 2 unit tests of 20 marks each carried out, one is after 30-40% syllabus gets covered, the next is during term end. Final semester exams of 80 marks take place after practical and oral exams.
Placement Experience
Companies for Instrumentation branch are few and out of those, a limited number of core companies conduct placement drives. Training and Placement Officer needs to work really hard on this. Most companies are for computer, EXTC and mechanical engineering. Internships are not offered by our college. One major issue which I felt was the students are equally responsible for everything happening in and around the college. Most of them just attend college for the sake of it because of which the deserving students suffer. I would suggest if any student wants to join this institute, you should be having attendance above 75%, utilise library facilities (one of the biggest library I have seen in a college) and don't rely much on campus placements, prepare for off-campus drives.
College Events
Events happen over the year, most of them are during even semesters (January - March). Seminars are happening at small and large numbers. Zodiac and Technical events are the highlights of this college.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees are expensive (Around ?100,000 - ?110,000). This is for open category students. For reserved category students, fees are deduced to almost half of the normal fees (?50,000 - ?60,000 for OBC, ?10,000 - ?20,000 for SC,ST). You have to confirm the fees structure with college.
Fees and Financial Aid
Unless you're from any non-open category like TFWS, SC, ST, SBC, etc. you don't have much advantage. Any banks offering education loans needs to be enquired. Again, you should have a decent academic profile to avail the loan, further securing distinction throughout the course and landing up with a good paying job to repay the loan amount.
Campus Life
My branch offers industrial training to students of each year (SE, TE, BE) at SIEMENS. They recently started to give training at college itself. I don't know much about it. You have to be in good books of the staff so that they could inform you about any competitions, projects, internships and jobs.
Hostel Facilities
College doesn't have hostel facilities. They did announce a hostel infrastructure recently, that would take time to build. Students from outside Maharashtra stay as PGs nearby college. You won't find much problem in searching a place to stay.
Alumni/Alumna
Most of the alumni and senior students have been in this field for quite a few years and yes they indeed have been helpful, atleast for me and my few classmates. Professors have been keeping in touch with passed out students so that they cab arrange seminars for their current batches. People from industry do come to give seminars. I had attended few of them discussing topics like energy management and project management.
Admission
We had Centralised Admission Process (CAP) rounds based on our composite scores (JEE+HSC). The document verification process is to be done before CAP rounds start. ARCs are allotted for each area for the verification process. After that, candidates have to fill out the college names in the form and wait for the list to be displayed. I had to wait till third round to get admission in RGIT Instrumentation branch. The process was overall easy to understand to go through. You can check DTE website which handles admissions for engineering courses.
Faculty
Faculty is well experienced in teaching and keeping a track on latest updates in industry. Most of them have attended conferences and published papers and have a good network in the industry. I would request them to have more practical training apart from the existing ones for students.
