BIT Mesra review (B.E. / B.Tech)

Course curriculum is just about fine. The syllabus followed is , however, quite old, as it is in any other engineering college in India. As far as computer department is concerned, syllabus although being old covers most of major aspects of Computer science and engineering. In each semester till third year there are around 5 theory papers, 3 practicals and a breadth paper. Fourth year doesn't comprise of much theory or practicals, but mainly consists of projects.

There are plenty of placement and job opportunities for students, provided the student has worked in the right direction taking his branch and other aspects into consideration. If the student is in computer department, then the probability of getting a good job is very high.

There are numerous events celebrated all year round. Small level events go on all year which involves students of the college only. There are three large events which is celebrated on a very large scale in which students of other colleges are also invited. First is the sports fest - ' Vajra '; Second is the technical fest - ' Pantheon '; Third and the grandest of them all is the cultural fest.

BIT Mesra is not a completely private college. It's a semi government college. So the fees is not that high compared to other private colleges. My total semester fee for all 4 years is 9.8 lakhs which also includes hostel fee. Apart from this one just has to give mess fee which 20k per semester. So, the cost estimate (apart from personal expenses) is around 11.4 lakhs. So, overall I think the fee structure is feesible.

I haven't availed any scholarships but there are some scholarship facilities that I have heard of. Students get a GB Birla scholarship if they get above 9 gpa in a semester. There are different schemes for above 9 or above 9.5 gpa. Also, there is relaxation of some percentage of fees while paying the semester fee of next semester. The extra curricular activities are really very good. One just needs to find an area of interest, be it singing, dancing, athletics, coding, quizzing, etc, and there will be a club available for that. The club will nurture that talent and make it a passion for you.

Alumni network is good and very large. (College being so old established in 1955). There are some successful alumini who come to college every now and then, to give a guest lecture and share experiences. Senior students are really helpful. They keep mentoring the students and workshops in every field is organised quite often by seniors to guide the students in right direction.

Entrance in this college in engineering stream (B.E. / B.Tech) is strictly on the basis of an all India entrance exam which is called JEE MAINS (Joint Entrance Exam). After the results one has to do 'choice filling' of colleges in decreasing order of priority. There are reservations in allotment of colleges based on OBC, SC/ST, Physically handicapped, state quota, etc. My admission, in particular, was based on the general rank merit list.

There is a mixed group of faculties in the college. Some of the faculties are really nice and have the core knowledge of the subject. (Sadly, They're very less in count). Some, on the other hand, are just about average and listening to their lectures will not intrigue you. As far as computer department is concerned, majority of faculties won't disappoint you.
