IIEST Shibpur is the 2nd oldest engineering college in India with a huge alumni network but there are some cases where it is following the same old traditions which should be changed or improved because it has now become an INI and is no more a state university
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is good but the courses are not accordingly distributed. Many courses are not covered to it's extreme level. It is left for the students to decide whether they have to study more or less. The college should increase their lab courses. The exam structure of the college is very good.
Placement Experience
The job and internship opportunities in my college is improving every year. Most of the students are placed at the end of their course in our college. They provide internship but not so much. The internships are on the verge of improvement.
College Events
Many events are celebrated in our college every year in which students from colleges of all over the India come and participate. Some of the events are: Rebecca - annual cultural fest, Instruo - annual technical fest, Scintillations, Metallum, Kriti.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure are feasible in my college with tuition fee waiver for economically weaker sections according to their family annual income. Their is also banks in my colleges which provide student loan if necessary.
Fees and Financial Aid
I did not availed any scholarship from the college but in my knowledge every year our college alumni give scholarship to some of the capable and needy students of our college. The college also has UCO bank in its campus which provides loan facilities.
Campus Life
The college provides gym facility, basketball court, tennis court, two large grounds for football, cricket and other outdoor stuffs, a boxing ring and many more. The lab our old but in good condition and more labs are being built.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is ok in our college which is improving after our new director talked to our country's education Minister for the loan for improving the college infrastructure. The hostel can accommodate around 150 students each. Each hostel has mess facility, washing machines , flexible timings and many more.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network of this college is very good. Alumni of this college are spread all over the world including big multinational companies. The senior of the college are very good and helpful. We have to just be in touch with our seniors for their help. It is also important to choose our seniors wisely.
Admission
At first, I gave JEE( mains) examination, through which I got an All India rank and got a seat allocation in the current college and course. The seat allocation was done according to the choices filled by me at the Josaa website. The joining process in the college after the seat allocation is given by the college itself on the website.
Faculty
I think the faculty of this college is old, experienced and good. The faculty of IIEST, shibpur is best in the entire Kolkata city. They are friendly, down to earth and teach with full efforts to make the students understand a concept.
