Brief description of NIST, Berhampur

College is very strict towards academics, attendance and deadlines. If your attendance is below cut-off there is no fine system like other colleges, you will not be allowed to sit in semesters in that case and it is called NAFS( not applicable for semesters).

Sice, it was under BPUT University it used to follow the university curriculum, since now it is autonomous it can go for changes, but there aren't any changes done yet. We have two semester exam each year. Before semester we have to appear for 2 class tests whose marks contribute to semester marks. Then there is quizzes, surprise test and assignment which also contributes to semester marking. So it's like this in 150 marks Lab- 30 marks Semester- 70 marks Attendance- 5 marks 4-Quizzes- 1.25 marks each Surprise test -5 marks Assignment- 5marks 2-class test- 15 marks each All tests are of 100 marks.

The overall placement percentage is approx 80% most of the years the highest placement percentage comes from CSE, IT or ECE. This year's highest package was from ECE, 18.58 lakhs by Western digital. The mass recruiters are Infosys, wipro, L&T technology services.

There are two major events apart from monthly. One is annual techfest which is called Sankalp. Where all technical events take place and is of 2 days. Second day program ends with a band performance and DJ nite. The other event is annual cultural fest called Waves, where all cultural events takes place.

The annual fees is 1,47,000 ruppees for outsiders as it includes hostel fees as well. This fee includes academics fee of 1,19,000 ruppees and 20,000 ruppees hostel fees. Apart from this there is a monthly mess charge of 3,300 ruppees each month. If you are in college your day will count irrespective of wether you eat or not that day. During vacation or on leave they charge a 27 ruppees per day as standard charges. So, if you are on leave then also you have to pay 27 per day wether you are there or not. So roughly you have to give 800 ruppees if you are on leave.

The college offers two scholarships, in which all category of students can apply for irrespective of being General, SC, ST or OBC. The first one is Economic Hardship which gives 1,500 monthly. So, total of 18,000 ruppees. And the other is Book Grant which gives 7,000 ruppes. I have availed Economic Hardship for 2 years and book grant this year.

College is very active in extra curricular activities as well. Our college wins most of the times in inter college basketball championship. It has a cricket , football, volleyball, badminton and kabaddi team as well and actively takes part in inter college events. There is a band from each year which performs in various events inside as well as outside the college. There are few innovation centre as well in the college those includes Hi-pc lab, NI lab, FPGA lab, Cadence lab, etc.

The infrastructure of the hostel depends on which hostel you are living in. Hall of residence-l is a old building and is maintained okay. Hall of residence-ll is a new building and is maintained well. The mess is good and spacious in HR-ll and is little messy and conjusted in HR-l.

Our college has a strong network of alumnus. And alumunus meets are held regularly at different locations to keep in touch with them. Apart from this most of them are on linked and other social media and can be contacted for help by juniors. This network is the main reason behind the good placement percentages.

I gave JEE mains exam, then applied for Orissa JEE and on the basis of JEE rank Orissa JEE gave a list of colleges and branch i can opt for. So, i chose this college because it's MHRD ranking was 69 that year.

Faculties are friendly, most of them are indulged in research activities. So, promotes students for research as well. Most of them have published papers and conferences. Many of them are from IITs and NITs. Some have there degree from foreign as well.
