Sngita Razbongshi's Review On Goreswar College, Baksa

I completed my B.com. from Goreswar College, Baksa. The college was pretty amazing. The college has a good hostel, co-curricular activities and also have good faculty. It is the best college in Baksa in my opinion. I had a memorable time there, and it also helped me excel in my career.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University. Gauhati University’s syllabus is adopted here and all the guidelines drafted by Gauhati University are strictly followed. Exams are held on a yearly basis and internal examinations and tests by teachers are held timely to evaluate students’ preparation.

The fee for my B.com first year was 6500, and for the overall course was 17000. The fee is pretty much feasible and affordable for many people. It is so that students from weaker backgrounds can also get educated.

The college offers a number of scholarship, most of which are for meritorious students. They follow as – 1. Merit reward for students who secured star marks in high school final examination. 2. Most of the departments offer merit awards to students securing more than 80% and above in subject of concerned departments in high school examination. 3. Two merit awards are annually announced un college for students securing highest marks in the course. 4. UGC Sponsored Scholarship for SC, ST, OBC & minority students are provided from the college end.

The college has a good record in both academics and extracurricular activities, interested students are also sent for inter-college tournaments from the college side. The college has a pretty good Gym for the students. The Central Library of the college is well equipped with a huge number of books. It has a wide variety of books either syllabic-prescribed or other reference books. Apart from textbooks and reference books, the library also provides many newspapers and journals on science and humanities. For reading facilities, the library has reading rooms separately for students and faculty with sitting accommodation for 50 and 20 readers at a time. The college is still working on improving the library infrastructure and wishes to digitalize it.

The college has a boy’s hosted which provides good hostel accommodation for the college students staying there. The hostel has a pretty decent infrastructure and the rooms are pretty spacious and comfortable to other hostels available there.

The college has a good alumni network and they also help in placements, or when college needs. The seniors are somewhat helpful because most of the seniors are busy or does not seem to willingly help the juniors. But some seniors are good and always helped us in our project or any topic we stuck on.

The college’s criteria for admission is quite easy to go through. Any 12th graduate with at least 60% aggregate is eligible to take admission in the college. I got admission on my 12th aggregate basis too, my documents were verified at admission time and the fee was submitted to ensure my stay in college for B.com.
