Remarks
It would be more beneficial to students if the syllabus is effectively completed as it's the case in every other department, the College being autonomous they are still able to give results as the question papers often cover the little that is taught.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum and syllabus is updated but so often lectures don't take place so only a portion of the syllabus is completed but we are still expected to be ready for anything not taught during exams. We have two written internal tests and one assignment, the best two and averaged for internals and the external exams are corrected by our subject teacher itself.
Placement Experience
When we join they take us in saying they will not provide us with campus interview and for internship we are expected to find a place on our own. However since the college has it's name and even though we don't study much it's not a pain to find a job after the course.
College Events
Pongal- the college has cultural events and traditional games Onam- each department independently celebrates by collecting money from students. Christmas- each department independently celebrates by collecting money from students. Deepwoods- college culturals College auditions- where the team who should represent the college for event are selected though performances
Fee Structure And Facilities
I had paid around 1 lakh per year for undergraduation. However, many of my classmates felt it wasn't worth it as we hardly had lectures and the department isn't equipped and don't allow students to borrow the little they have.
Fees and Financial Aid
We were hardly provided any scholarship or loans. They honour the highest scorer of each department with 600 and 400 rupees per year. Though the college promised a higher amount for the most meritorious student.
Campus Life
There are a few extracurricular activities that are conducted by the sports department but other departments are not that involved in sports. Other than that, there aren't many extracurricular activities available.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel cost is 35k per year apart from the monthly mess bill which costs around 3-5k per month. The hostel's washrooms are highly unhygienic, and we are not given warm water for bath and we get running water only for around 2 hours a day.
Alumni/Alumna
The College keeps in touch with their alumni and contact them when they have department, college and alumni events. They have office staff who take care of the communications with the alumni who keep in touch.
Admission
The HOD conducted an interview and a drawing test and selected me.However, seats where full but they had reserved 10 seats under principal quota and I had to somehow contact the principal through recommendation to get the seat.
Faculty
They are qualified and knowledable however since classes aren't monitored they often don't turn up in class. Especially with our course we are mostly just asked to watch a film and write a review though we were never taught how to critically analyse a film.
