Remarks
Being a college of national importance is pretty much enough on paper, but still a lot of improvement needed by the placement cell, academic cell to ensure that the college isn't falling down the pecking order of the students' choice. The infrastructure also needs to be developed, with the college intake almost touching 600 and 50 acres has rendered insufficient to house almost 3000 students. Adequate steps should be taken before the overcrowding and lack of resources take place.
Course Curriculum Overview
Its a pretty competitive exam, with the curriculum being the 12 class CBSE portions for Mains, and advanced level of the 12 class portions for Advanced. Many coaching institutes are there to help you clear these exams, though most of them are turning into money churning organisations.
Placement Experience
The college has a strict 5 month internship policy in the curriculum, during the 4th year. It carries 5 credits, and a detailed review is being conducted by the faculty for grading each student. The placements aren't top notch, atleast for the mechanical branch. The highest package for mech branch was 6LPA CTC, with computer branch package touching 28LPA CTC.
College Events
There are various intra and inter college fests conducted in IIITDM. From the intra college cluster events, which is a techno-cultural fest held for 2 days, to the inter college fests Vashisth and Samgatha conducted annually for Technical and Cultural domains respectively. Various clubs too are there, based for many domains like Mechanical, Electronics and Computers for technical and Dance, drama, photography, etc as cultural clubs.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees for me was ?70000 per semester including tuition and hostel fees. Though the price has been hiked now, it is still feasible. From my peers in the junior batches, i got to know that the fees per sem is almost touching 1 lakh. Education loans are available in plenty and many scholarships too are given to the poor and eligible students.
Fees and Financial Aid
Many banks provide loans for the students, with Indian Bank and State Bank of India, being closest to the college providing various options to the students. Also fee waivers are given to the students whose parents earn less than 4LPA.
Campus Life
There are 2 basketball courts(1 indoor, 1 outdoor), a tennis court(turf), 3 volleyball courts, one football ground, one cricket ground. There's an indoor sports complex, Arjuna which houses 6 badminton courts, 2 TT tables, carroms, chess and the gym, though there's a lot of scope to improve the gym.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels comprise of 5 buildings, of which 3 are skyscrapers namely Jasmine, Ashwatha and Ashoka. Each and every floor has 2 toilets which are common for the rooms in that particular floor. LAN connection is provided to every room, which was 100 MBPS almost throughout the year. Each student was given a single room, with a cot, table, wardrobe and a chair, with the balcony attached to each room. A small store to get the provisions is inside the college. Last to mention being the canteen, cafeteria and night canteen, ensuring that the students never sleep hungry.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is clicking slowly, but steadily. It is been just 12 years since the college has started. The seniors are some of the kindest. They were helpful at all times. A strict no ragging policy was there in college, and it was being followed by everyone without defaulting.
Admission
You've to clear JEE Mains examination, and apply for JoSAA councilling. The exam has 2 levels, namely Mains and Advanced, and clearing Mains is a must. You've to get atleast 140 to get a decent course here, and to get Computer Engineering, you gotta get min 170-180 marks.
Faculty
All the faculty are Ph.D holders from many prestigious institutes around the world, and from various IIT's. The teaching isn't done in the conventional way, and the help that these faculty provide us is exceptional.
