Remarks
Hostel wardens (girls) have very traditional mentality. Other than that, college experience is really good. There are many events for self development and skill development. Tech clubs organize a lot of skill events.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is really good. First year we had common subjects for all departments. So students can know what subjects interest them. From second year, we were divided by departments and we had fundamental courses like os, dsa , oops etc. From thirs year, we had courses like ml , ai , iot etc. IT sure has a lot of labs but at the end of the day, you'll be content with whatever you learnt from labs. Second and third year will be a bit hectic. Exams include quizzes, mid sem, end sem , lab exams snd project evaluations. Exam structure is well planned.
Placement Experience
NITK has really good placement and internship opportunities. 2020 we had really good placements. Almost 300 companied visit our college. Companies like Google, Microsoft , Qualcomm, Texas Instruments , Tata Bajaj etc come for placements and internships. Average stipend is around 40k. There'll be a pointer cut-off to be able to apply for companies. Then a series of interviews and screening tests and finally HR. My overall experience was smooth and content.
College Events
Two big events are Engineer and Incident. Both are one of the largest fests of their kind in India. Engineer is a tech fest. Thousands of students come across the states. There'll be display of projects from various clubs , hackathons etc. Incidenct is a cultural fest with fashion walks, dance competitions and msny cultural activities. Apart from that, there are other fests and events like crescendo , coliseum , bharat darshan, etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee is standard for all NITs. 125000 institute fee for year excluding hostel and mess fee. It'd be around 90000 per sem (62500 institute fee + 25000 mess fee). If Sc/st, there'd be no Institute fee. For others, I feel it's quite expensive.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am not eligible for the scholarships provided. Ill provide a list of scholarships available.Lot of scholarships are given to sc/st students. Merit and means scholarships are given every year. 2/3 fee reimbursement to economically backward. No fee for sc/st and below 1 lakh per annum.
Campus Life
Gender ratio is 1:5. We have really good infrastructure for sports. DJs are organised during fests. Musical nights every month. Swatch pakwada and beach cleaning events.l every month. Once a sem, sports events.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel rooms are quite good. First and second years it's Sharing and later years it's single room. Hostel rooms are in sufficient number. No need for PGs. If needed, PGs are in 5 minute bus distance from college.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes. Senior students helped us learning about the work at companies we got placed in and also about the courses and the professors. Alumni helped a lot for organising tech events and recommended college to various companies
Admission
Admission is through JEE- mains. Need to provide preference order of eligible college and there's five rounds of seat allotment in which we can freeze or float the seat. In the college, after first year, there can be sliding for unfilled seats. My department is Information Technology. I got this based on my rank and this is one of my top preferences as CS/IT related fields are currently in trend and my interest area is Coding. There's no interview for admission.
Faculty
As two sides of coin, we have really awesome professors and okayish professors. There are also assistant lecturers who teach some courses under guidance of professors. In IT, most of the profs are really good and helped us a lot in getting our basics right. Few subjects are boring. Other than that, faculty of IT is fine.
