A college with superb experiences

Overall, Jalpaiguri Government Engineering college is a very good college to get admission in and take your career to a very next level by using all the necessary facilities and getting a peaceful environment and a healthy relationship between seniors and teachers.

My course ( Mechanical Engineering) is a very diversified course and we get to know many new things that how the machines work and how we can improvise the working of machines.The exam structure is simple.It consists of two papers- one of Mathematics and other of combined Physics and Chemistry.Each paper is of 100 marks and have different sections of different marks distribution.

Placements are well and this year we got 130 students of the final year palced having an average package of 4 LPA.The training and placement cell is also helpful and provides information about the ongoing internship or training opportunities.Many students also get to work on different projects under different college professors.

Every year two big fests are organised namely JECLAT (the annual social and cultural fest) and SRISTI( techno management fest) in the month of Feb-March.Apart from this we also have our Literary Fest and some other events like TEDx which was organised recently last year.Sports events are also organised every year during the annual sports meet of the college.

The fee structure is very much feasible for students as its tuition fees ranges from about 37-40k for four years for core departments like Civil, Mechanical and Electrical.For CSE and ECE it is about 60-70k for four years and for IT it stands at about 1.10 Lacs for four years.

Many scholarships are offered by the college authorities and our alumni association.Many other scholarships are also offerd by the state government.Many bright students who have poor financial conditions are provided with scholarship amount of 60,000 yearly if they perform well in the academics getting atleast 60% marks annually.Thus these types of scholarships are offered.

Talking about labs of our college, it a well equipped with all the necessary labs like Electronics lab, electrical lab, fluid machinery lab, heat transfer lab, chemistry lab, computer lab and many more.Sports also plays a lead role in our college having three big grounds in our campus and each hostel having their own playground.Basketball, volleyball, cricket, football each sports have their respective grounds for practice and for fitness there is a Gym also.

Hostel infrastructure is also remarkable.There are four separate hostels for four years and a separate hostel for girls.Each Hostel has its own library and information sports facilities.Apart from this, each room of the hostels are well equipped with LAN connection for better internet connection and the rooms are large enough to accommodate three persons.

We have a very strong connections with our seniors and alumnus.Each year we have two gatherings and spend a good time with our beloved seniors.There is a what's app group also where our seniors and alumnus interact online to discuss different issues and help anyone in need.

You have to appear for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam (WBJEE) and secure a rank and then according to the rank you get the colleges through online counseling process.The counseling process constitutes of three rounds and upto round 3 everybody gets a college and then final reporting is done at the college for admission.

Faculties of our college are very experienced and well educated as most of them are from IITs or IIEST and they also have a good industry experience also.They teach us in a very good interactive way and we all get superbly involved in any discussions of the class.Every teacher is very helpful when it comes to academic or be it personal issues.
