K J Somaiya has a lot of pros over cons. It has one of the best infrastructure for any engineering college in Mumbai along with all the sports facilities and the industry standard labs and workshops. It has a huge and beautiful campus. The faculties are great and the placements are excellent. I think the only con would be the fees but you can avail the government scholarships to take care of that if you are eligible.

I am a currently studying in the Third year of Mechanical engineering course.The college has structured the syllabus in a very effective way which keeps the students interested in learning more about the subject.The unimportant parts have been chopped off from the syllabus which leads to a great and engaging learning experience.The labs and the workshops are industrial standard with quality lab assistants.You generally have only 1 lab in a day.The rest are lectures.The timings are usually 10:30 to 5:15 but on some days you generally have last lecture off so you can leave an hour early.

The college has a Placement and internship cell which looks over the placements.The placements generally start in your 4th year that is the 7th semester.The mails are sent to the branches which are of interest to the visiting companies along with the prerequisites and the placement structure.It generally consists of aptitude test, group discussion, personal interview and technical interview.The details regarding the visiting companies, their packages and the average salary per branch are updated regularly on the college website.

K J Somaiya has a huge number of events.The year starts off generally with the technical fest called as 'ABHIYANTRIKI'.It has a lot of technical events, competitions and display stalls along with some super cars and bikes.The sports fest is called as 'SKREAM' wherein student teams from all over Maharashtra compete in a variety of sporting events.Finally the academic year is capped off with the cultural fest called as 'SYMPHONY' in which all the cultural events take place.It has an EDM night as well as some Bollywood Artists perform on the big stage.

The fees for K J Somaiya is actually more than an average engineering college in Mumbai.This due to the infrastructure and the various facilities it provides for the students.It has an athletics ground, football ground, cricket ground, indoor badminton court, squash court, yoga center, amphitheater, auditorium along with a very beautiful campus.

The students whose annual income is less than 8 lakhs can apply for the EBC scholarship provided by the government.The entire process is absolutely smooth and the office facilities help out a lot at any step we are in trouble.The EBC scholarship grants 50% fee waiver.There is also a committee called PUSH-KJSCE which helps poor students by paying their entire fees after conducting proper interviews with them and shortlisting the students.

The college has an abundance of extracurricular activities.Throughout the year we have workshops about which we are notified through the email id provided by the college.We also have a SHIELD competition along the 5 branches which consists of technical events, cultural events, indoor and outdoor sports etc.There is no discrimination on whichever basis whatsoever.

No, I haven't opted for a hostel.I travel by train to the college.However the college has 2 hostel buildings namely polytechnic hostel and MBA hostel.The polytechnic hostel is a cheaper option as its fees is actually half of MBA hostel with some obvious but not so important tradeoffs.

Somaiya has a very strong alumni base.In fact we have an alumni cell which keeps contact with the alumni of our college.Sometimes they are invited for guest lecturers or as chief guests on numerous occasions.

K J Somaiya is the top autonomous engineering college in Mumbai.The college received autonomy in 2014 and recently received the status of university in 2019.Because of Autonomy the college has entire control over the syllabus as wel as the exams and assessment of the answer sheets.This is a great advantage to have as we get to see our papers and also clear any doubts regarding the papers there itself.Also we get our results pretty early compared to the Mumbai university.I chose Mechanical engineering as I was always interested in that field.

The faculty at KJSCE are excellent.Most of them are PHD holders and the ones who are not are mostly pursuing their PHD with the help of the college mostly in IITs.The faculty are well acquainted with the course and have in depth practical and theoretical knowledge.
