College information

The college doesn’t have a positive reputation among other NITs but the college is good among other government and private schools of punjab. The people of punjab don’t know that this college is centrally funded and they don’t consider it a great college for engineering in punjab. The people must get aware about the entrance exam providing such a quality education at such low expense.

The course curriculum is strategised according to syllabus of GATE BIOTECHNOLOGY exam so that all the major fields of the biotechnology are covered which makes it easier to get admitted to M. tech course in various government colleges covering all the NIT and IIT. The exam structure of the semester is divided into term exam system as minor-1, minor-2 and one Major or end semester exam. Minors are of 20 marks each and major of 50 marks. Laboratory exams are also conducted at the end of semester.

The placement is good for all the branches present in the college. Almost everyone in the college gets placed with an average package of 5 lac per annum. Computer science and electronics communication engineers get highest packages of like ~50 lacs per annum. In 2019, companies like Microsoft, Adobe, Samsung, Amazon, GeeksForGeeks came for internships as well as placements. Microsoft gave an internship offer of 50 thousand per month and Adobe of 60 thousand per month.

There are two events throughout the year one cultural named '’Utkansh’’ and one technical called ’’Techniti‘’. The events are big enough for college students but is not big enough for other college students. Students from different colleges of punjab come to our college to participate. There are hardly any students from other state colleges

It is feasible for everyone. People who have low family income get fee waiver scheme and get rebate upto 100% on tuition fee. The students get no rebate on the hostel mess fee and it is equal for every student irrespective of the type of hostel a student gets. There are seen hikes in the tuition fee from 2019 onwards.

Our college provides scholarships to all the students who have low/very low family income by asking for a income proof(income certificate). I have a family income of 1-5 lac and I got 75% rebate in tuition fee charge. Similarly, people who have income less than 1 lac get a 100% rebate on tuition fee but not on hostel mess fee.

Honestly speaking, there are not much extracurricular activities. There are some so called clubs that are only seen while college annual events keeping other activities aside there are lots of workshops, most of which are of startups and technology related innovations. There are sports clubs like cricket, football, basketball, volleyball and athletics. They go to events like inter NIT sports meets, IIT sports fests etc. There is no inequality among genders. The college environment with respect to sports is in the hands of the students only which leaves no place for sexual orientation, politics or any economic status. Everyone is treated equally.

First year students get 4 seater rooms and second year students get 2 seater rooms and after second year each student get single seater rooms in their individual hostels allotted according to their major branch. Our college doesn’t have a PG. Hostel seats are enough for the number of students admitted every year while some students staying at their homes being day scholars. There are PGs near our college which charges more than hostel fee. The hostel fee is very less compared to private colleges.

There is an Alumni meet every year where 20 year old pass out students are called who made something out of their life. And they are given opportunities to tell their life story to everyone. The seniors are very chill as there is no ragging in our campus and they support us and give their precious suggestions which help us in predicting our future and interest in the respective fields. They also provide us their notes and interview experience.

I got admitted to this college by qualifying a national level entrance exam called JEE main. This college is centrally funded college and 50% of the seats are reserved for home state applicants. I lie in the home state quota so, I got admitted with less all india rank compared to other state students. I had to apply for the www. josaa. nic. in counselling which is seat allotting authority for JEE main exam which resulted in getting me a seat at my college aka NIT jalandhar. This college is considered the best engineering college of punjab. I chose biotechnology because it is the most rapidly emerging field of this time.

All of the faculty is highly qualified having a minimum doctorate or post doctorate experience. The old faculty is highly experienced teaching a wide variety of students from all over the india. The teachers of biotechnology department are less in number but are among the best teachers of NITJ and have a large number of citations on their research papers on google.
