Remarks
The College is overall good. But don't expect things like bigger buildings, parks, canteen with variety of food items(outside the campus there are many good bakeries), well equipped Labs. GCE Salem has TEQUIP which provide 24 hrs very fast wifi along the campus, and they helps students financially for attending workshops, implant trainings and doing projects. They also conduct workshops and many events.
Course Curriculum Overview
The Curriculum is good, as it is an autonomous institution the curriculum get updated, frequently, It is mostly concentrated on strengthen the fundamental but not on research. Will have lab 3 days per week except last semester. The Exams are not frequent, there will be only monthly tests and semesters.
Placement Experience
GCE Salem has enough placement offers for anyone to get placed, but a little self hardwork is necessary. There will be no spoonfeeding like private colleges. Some companies organise pooled campus in the Salem which the gce Salem students are allowed to participate. College itself doesn't provide internships, but it gives all the support to the students for getting internship/placement conducting various placement trainings, workshops, departmental functions,
College Events
Every year there will National level Technical symposium for every department, and intradepartmental symposium. More than 400 students participates in the National level symposium. Two or more workshops will be conducted. And other cultural festival events like Pongal, alumni meets, club events, etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
As this is a Government Institutions the fee structure is feasible. The college tuition fee will be around 10000-15000 on the first year (based on the community) and 6000-8000 from the second year. The exam fee will be around 1800/semester (6months).
Fees and Financial Aid
The Scholarship will be offered to the students according to their community, whether opted for hostel. For a BC students the scholarship will be 4000-5000(day scholars)/yr 8000-9000(hostellers)/yr And Higher for other Communities ( MBC,SC,ST)
Campus Life
The GCE Salem is one of the tough competitor among the other colleges in sports competition, having very good facilities for sports. Different types of clubs are there. ( Ex. Dance, Language, Leo, Music. ). Various workshops conducted in the campus every year. Everyone treated equally.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel rooms were not bad, Hostel seats mostly available for all the students. On the 1,2,3 years have to share the rooms with 2 students, 3/ room. No water problem. May get in mar, Apr (sometimes) but they will provide water by water services. new hostels are in construction. That will have good infrastructures.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumnus were so helpful, they were keep in contact with the college, every year there will be an alumni meet. So many people helps to the college in many way. The seniors are also friendly and helpful.
Admission
I selected this course because of my interest. Anna university conducts Engineering college counselling every year, there will be a Ranking for all the engineering colleges which are affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. Based on the cut off, we can choose the college.
Faculty
As the faculties themselves mostly selected by Government exams they were well qualified and well experienced, they were good in the subject knowledge, but not everyone is good in teachings. They are ready to help you, if you are really interested in ur studies.
