IIT(ISM), Dhanbad Review

This college is one of the best colleges in India for engineering. The environment here helps any student for his overall development not only in the field of academics but also in sports, extracurricular activities etc.

As i am persuing my graduation i can't tell anything about focus on research in my college. The course structure is really very nice here as it is designed by the most experienced faculties of the College, both theoretical and practical classes are arranged for students. Exam Structure- There are two important exams held in every semester mid semester exam which have about 30% and end semester exam which have 60% weightage in final gpa calculation. Rest 10% is given on the basis of quiz, assignment and attendance.

Placements are really very nice here and this is the factor where my college beats most of the engineering colleges in India. IIT(ISM) is the best College for studying any earth science branch in india, as the placement are best for these branches. Ovelall the placement percentage is about 80% which is very good for any engineering College.

There are various fests arranged for and by the students throughout the year here is the list:- Concetto- This is the annual Techno- management fest of IIT(ISM), Dhanbad. Where various technical and managerial events are held for students which give the a chance to showcase their talents. Srijan- This is the annual cultural fest of College. In this various cultural events are held for students.

Fee Structure here is not same for all. It depends on a lot of factors like annual family income of students and their cast. 1) If anyone belongs sc/st cast then their tution fee is zero they only have to pay mess and examination fee. 2) If annual family income of any student is less than 1 lac. his tution fee is also waived off. 3)If annual family income of any student is between 1 to 5 lac. 2/3rd of his tution fee will be waived off. For the students who don't lie in any of these catagory have to pay Tuition fees (2 lac annually)+mess and other fee( about 50k annually).

There are various types of central and state government funded scholarships that are being given to students here but the most popular and mostly given is merit cum means scholarship. It is given on the basis of GPA scored by the students Generally a GPA of 7. 5 or more is enough to claim this scholarship. There are two subgroups in this 1) Scholarship-It covers the tuition fee and gives extra 10k pocket allowance annually 2)Freeship- It only covers tution fee.

The environment for extracurricular activities is tremendous here. There are various clubs for dancing, street dancing, robotics, dramatics, art, photography etc. There is a building totally dedicated to all these club called student activity center The sports facilities are also really very good. there are various ground and courts for various games like cricket, hockey, vollyball, football tennis, bedminton, basketball etc.

The alumni network is very strong here especially for earth science branches as this college is very old started way back in 1926. Many students who passed out from here are at various posts in different companies throughout the globe.

I got admission through JEE(ADVANCED) on the basis of merit. Every year JEE(MAIN) and JEE(ADVANCED) are held for admission in various government funded engineering institutions like IITs, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs more than a million students sit in JEE(MAINS) and about 1. 5 lac students are selected for JEE(ADVANCED). About 12k students are finally selected for various IITs.

I can briefly tell about faculties of department of Mechanical engineering as that is my department. Faculties here are just same as that of any other college in india. Most of them have a great knowledge in the field they are working. Some faculties are very good at teaching and helps students in various ways but some don't have any kind of sympathy with students they just follow their way of teaching.
