Greater than ISM less than IIT

There are both positive and negative remarks on college. positive: the infrastructure being old college is quite good. being an IIT the academics are also good. the alumni network Is very strong. the culture and relationship among the students is unique. the placements are growing rapidly. Negative: it is so called IIT but I believe it didn't get the complete IIT status both from the government and public. it is not completely being noticed as IIT. the location of the college is also a drawback. it is not situated in some good city unlike that if other iits. this restricts its development.

The course curriculum and be said to be good one. more over it is the same as that in most of the engineering colleges. the first year complete deals with the basics of all subjects relegated to different branches of engineering.From second year we will be taken through the subjects of corresponding branches. From then we will be given different projects to perform. The time table is not that hectic. In fact it can be considered chill.

Being a new IIT the placements opportunities are growing rapidly. the placements are really good in some of the streams like CSE, ECE, Petroleum, Mining, etc. In my branch (ECE ) the placements this year are quite good. about 90 out off 110 are placed. But most of thwm are into software field. the core companies coming hete are very scarce.companies like amazon, Microsoft Walmart, flipkark, etc are high paying companies.

There are quite number of events taking place in the college within a year. In the beginning during October there is an techno-management fest named "concerto". its highly useful for developing the skills and competeting among other IITians. the next comes cultural fest "srijan". Its of complete fun. Large number of events take place under this fest and we make huge number of memories. Then comes the sports fest "parakram". This brings out the sportsmen in us. Apart from these there are huge number of small events.

The fee structure is quite feasible. it varies with difference in income and caste. The students with low income like below 2 lakhs per annum will get tutition fee partially waived. The students with below 1 lakh annual income get complete fee waiver. Students of st and sc category don't have any fee through out the study.

The college offers loans facilities to the students under which the students fee will be paid by the banks and the loan can be repaid when the student gets proper income or job. The are many scholarship opportunities mainly based on income and merit.

The gender ratio is same as in other iits of about 1 girl for every 6 boys. The sports and other extra curricular facilities are quite good. There are different student organisation for proper functioning and for organization of different events like student gymkhana and senate groups. Different events occur for maintaining religious tolerance. Girls have equal say with men in all the matters related to college. the is no gender bias.

The connections with the alumni is very strong with the college. Being an old college the alumni network is quite big and well established. mony of them are at important positions in different organisations. many placements here are done due to the strong alumni network.

I cleared the jee mains examination and got 99.51 percentile in mains.I got qualified for the jee advanced examination.I appeared to jee advanced examination and secured an all India rank of 4012. Then I registered for JOSAA counselling where seats for IIT and NIT and some other prestigious institutions were allotted. There were 7 rounds of counselling. I filled my choice list in the priority order. I finally was alloted with IIT dhanbad ECE stream. My first choice was CSE stream. But I couldn't get that. so I Choose ECE stream as this is an old engineering branch and a stable was with good placement opportunities and further studies opportunities.

The faculty of college is quite qualified but being a government college some of them lack the interest in teaching.some of them are really very good. They are on time and spend quality time with students and clarifying the doubts. but some of them take classes as if they are forced to.
