My college review

Overall the college is really great. If you are willing to step out of your room and explore life, then this college is the best place for you. The gender ratio should be improved. And students should be given more freedom in choosing their subjects.

In BTech, the course is inclined towards teaching the basics of electronics, but in the final year we are taught industrial concepts. The research part is done by the MTech and Research Scholars. Exams are hectic but labs are informative but chill.

The placement scenario is really great. Tech giants like Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung visit our campus during placement season. Highest packages go upto 41.5 lpa. Around 100 companies visit us during placement, with average package around 10-12 lpa.

We have our technical fest Concetto during month of October. It the largest techno-management fest of Eastern India. Similarly we have our Cultural Fest during March named Srijan, which is also the largest cultural fest of Eastern India. Both the festivals have footfall of >10000 from students across India. We also have Parakram as our Sports Fest.

The fee is on expensive side, for a middle class family. Each semester total fee is about 1,25,000 so roughly 2.5 lakh a year. Out of which 1 lakh is tution fee for one semester, 15,000 is the mess fee. Rest all 10,000 are hostel, water , electricity, internet and other miscellaneous fees.

Fee waiver on tution fee is given by college to those students whose family income is less than 5 lakhs. There is also a provision of MCM scholarship (Merit-cum-Means), to students having family income less than 8 lakhs and having decent grades.

The gender ratio is not very great. Men to women ratio is around 8:1. There are various societies like dance, music, acting, art photography, robotics, coding, artificial intelligence and various sports clubs like football, cricket, basketball. All these things are looked by student Gymkhana. Every student is treated equally and no discrimination is made on any basis.

Hostel rooms are two seaters, on the smaller side, there are two beds, one window, one door, and one cupboard. The mess is present inside the hostel, but the food is not great. Canteen are also present to provide fast food.

The alumni network of our college is great. Various clubs and events are funded by our alumni. Most seniors are really helpful. They guide us in our courses, during internships and placements. Seniors and juniors coordinate together to make our fests successful.

I gave JEE Advanced in year 2017 and secured an AIR of 4589. I had many other options to choose like other branches like Chemical, Civil and Mechanical at other IITs but I chose Electronics at IIT Dhanbad because of my interest in electronics domain. The counseling process was online. And then there was a final reporting at the college, to confirm my seat.

Most of the professors are highly qualified with teaching experiences of 10-20 years. They encourage us to take projects on various domains and provide us with proper guidance. Tutorials on lectures are also provided.
