A brief Review of Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata

According to placement scenario, Among the colleges participating in WBJEE counseling, our college is the 2nd best college after Jadavpur University.( IIT kharagpur, NIT durgapur and IIEST Shibpur do not participate in WBJEE). But some of the students deserve really good R&D jobs or high salary jobs which our college fails to provide on campus.

All labs are not as good as a research oriented student shoud expect. In spite of that few enthusiastic students and professors do not stop themselves from performing research work. But our college has government funded IEDC( Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell) laboratories which is very well equipped and compatable to R&D labs of companies like TCS. Very few students are selected as a student Researcher in this lab.

Students are mainly placed in IT companies regardless of stream with an average package of 3.5 LPA. But few students from each batch become able to grab jobs of high salaries(highest package was of 40 LPA offered by Adobe) with their own talent and hardwork mainly thourough off campus placement. Our college doesn't provide internship. But HODs of each stream help the students to get free internship in different companies and IITs by recommendation. Again, good students are able manage paid internships by their own.

Our college arranges mainly two techfests. 1. Innovatia, the annual techno management fest. 2. Kokata Mini Maker's Fair. (Our college is only authorized body in eastern region of India to arrange this globally famous event.) Apart from that, every department has their own departmental techfests. International conferences on several topics of science and technology are conducted by our college in an iterative fashion.

In our batch, 50,000 INR is being taken at start of each semester and 30,000 INR approx was taken as one time admission fee including all other charges. So we have to give 4,30,000 INR approx for the whole Curriculum. But our next batch is paying 10,000 INR more per semester. So each year the semester fees may increment. But the fee structure for a particular batch remains same for the whole Curriculum.

Our college doesn't provide any loan. But few number of seats are reserved for the TFW( Tution Fee Waiver) category. The students with total family annual income less than certain amout( 120000 INR) can avail this facility. The semester fees are not taken from them.

Students are selected in our college according to the merit not by Gender, religion, cast or any other fact like these. Gender ratio is more biased to male amongst the student. But our college is free from any gender discrimination and completely safe for female. Students of every religion are equally treated with in the campuss. No political activity is allowed with in the campuss. Cultural society and sports club are also present in our college. But students are advised to focus on their studies and all.

Seniors and Alumni play the most significant role. Enthusiastic students learn the new technologis which are actually required in the industry from the seniors. Actually, every year, our college has some really talented students but college can't provide them the jobs or internships they deserve apart from IT jobs. So they do that by their own and here the role of Alumni comes into play. Though Google, Adobe, Microsoft have never come to our college but our college has Alumni working in these companies.

I got admission in this college thourough online counseling process conducted by WBJEE( West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) Board. Regarding the councelling process : Students can fill their choices of Stream and College in the descending order of their priority. For example, a student will fill like 1. CSE in Jadavpur University 2. CSE in Institute of Engineering and Management. 3. ECE in Jadavpur University . . . This means that student wants the 1st choice first, if not possible then 2nd choice, and so on. Students are allotted the best possible choice of stream and college according to availability of seat and better rank holder gets the opportunity first to fulfill his /her choice. After getting the final allocation of stream and college, I went to that college to get admission. I was not interviewed at the time of admission process. I had to submit the fees of 1st semester and other one time charges and fees to complete my admission process.

Few Faculties are really good and dedicated to help students. But many Faculties are not up to the mark. Though their educational qualifications are good enough.( like Mtech from IIT, Phd etc) So It depends upon the particular person whether he/she is really have the passion of teaching. I think every college has this problem. I would say that the recruitment team are trying to take faculty as good as possible
