Life at Somaiya

The experience in this college will create memories which will be cherished for life. This college has really helped people to grow in their life with an equal balance of hard work and fun to shape them in all aspects. Also the vibrant culture of the college helps the students coming from different family backgrounds to form a strong bond which remains for life.

The exam system was semester based, having 2 semesters each year and we had a grading system instead of marks in each system which cumulated till the end of the graduation course to calculate average grade over 3 years or 6 semesters. The pattern here is very good and they help to shape the overall personality of a student not just thourough academics but also thourough sports and other cultural programs.

Although you won't find a placement program for a Bachelor of Commerce student, there have been other specialized courses like Bachelor of Mass Media, Bachelor of Accounts and Finance, and other courses where placements have been taking place with various MNCs who come and provide internships to students from the college.

Somaiya as a whole is known for it's vibrant festivals every year which is conducted by the students itself with the support of the faculties. There are various music events, art related events, various competitions held in the huge campus of the college. Even some celebrities come here and perform in the festivals bringing additional entertainment value to the festivals. It also participates in races conducted at international levels in Germany and other countries, students being from engineering college.

The fees are very much reasonable in the college. Apart from academic fees, we need to pay fees related to some extra curricular activities and other small charges. There is complete breakdown of fees which has to be paid by the student in the admission form itself. The college accept fees in both cash as well as banking modes.

The college did offer scholarship based on sports and eligible students were selected to provide such scholarships based on their past performance in sports at a recognized level of sports. Education loan facility was also provided by the college which was given to the financially weak students based on the family income details provided to the college.

The Somaiya College has the best campus in the city. The campus of the college is huge, filled with various colleges of different degrees like undergraduate, graduate, management and engineering colleges. It has always been active in sports activities and it has world class football ground with international level Olympic race track. Students from these colleges participate in inter-college as well as national and international le ek competitions like robotics, F1 racing, innovation competitions, Whiz kids competitions,etc. Both males and females can be found studying here in ample numbers in all the courses offered by the college.

There is a hostel facility given by the college to it's students in the campus itself. But having my own home near the college, I have never utilized hostel services of the college. The fees charged are pretty reasonable for students to stay and also other facilities like food, clothes related services are provided at cheap rates.

The alumni network helps the existing students to help them decide their careers as well as academic courses. The speeches given by them is very informative for the students and the network provided by them also helps them tap the opportunities for internships and jobs for future once they are done with their course.

Since I was a Chartered Accountancy student, Bachelor of Commerce course was the best to go with my professional course. Somaiya has always been a CA friendly college. I got the admission on the basis of my HSC marks. The students who have been part of Somaiya since 12th had easier way to get admission for graduation course due to in-house quota.

The faculty here is well qualified as per the subject they teach and they make sure that the student gets in-depth knowledge of the topic with not just exams perspective but also adding to general knowledge. There is constant efforts from the teachers to conduct various tests and projects that helps a student to develop their skills. For example, presentation skills, soft skills, extra curricular, etc.
