Course Curriculum Overview
Exams are held semester wise i.e. every six months. To obtain an on campus B.A. Degree you will have to go through six semesters during three years. In the first and second semester, there are total six papers – 2 languages, 3 optional subjects and one compulsory paper. The compulsory paper is one from either the Constitution of India or Environmental Studies. In the third semester there shall be 5 papers – 2 languages and 3 optional subjects. The fourth semester again has 6 subjects viz. 2 languages, 3 optional and one compulsory subject – Computer Application. In the final year, that is in the 5th and 6th semester three optional subjects with tree papers each.
Placement Experience
Though, the Maharaja’s college is over 100 years old, sadly not many company come for placement drive and a lot less for Arts courses. However, micro finance companies, BPOs etc do approach from time to time. The monthly package through placement lies in the range of Rs 8000 to 25, 000.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure of B.A. Degree program in Maharaja’s college Mysore is highly affordable and very nominal as compared to the reputation and faculty of the collage. You would be able to obtain an on campus three year B.A. Degree by making a total expense of Rs 23, 150 in three years. The fee is to be paid annually, in three installments of Rs 8790, Rs 7180 and Rs 7180 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year respectively.
Campus Life
The college provides good opportunities to indulge in extracurricular activities including sports and culture. The NCC program in the college had started with the University’s corps in 1917. Since 1948, the 1/13 Karnataka Battalion of NCC has been placed in the college and functioning actively. The college also has NSS (National Service Scheme). In 2016 an extracurricular activities forum was inaugurated in the college.
Admission
Anyone who has passed Pre University Course (PUC) from a Karnataka state board or any other board/college recognized by the college is eligible for admission in 1st year Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) course. Applicants are required to obtain application form from college office by paying the required fee. Do remember to enclose the photo copy of the following documents duly attested by a gazetted officer along with your application – marks card of S.S.L.C. and P.U.C. , N.C.C. and other relevant sports certificate, if any; Caste and income certificate; transfer and conduct certificate. At the time of admission, you will be asked to submit the original certificates and keep the attested copies with you. The same will remain with the college till you admission is approved or till the completion of course. Your seat in a particular Bachelor’s Degree course combination depends on the combination you applied for in the application form and also the number of vacancies in that combination. No change of subject combination will be entertained by the college, after submission of the application. College doesn’t send individual letters to selected candidates and the only way to know whether you are in or out is to check the notice board.
Faculty
The Maharaja’s college Mysore has a list of acclaimed and talented faculty members. The college also had the honor of having Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan among its faculty members. The faculty and students of Maharaja's college haven't been bystanders and have taken proactive role in the freedom struggle. The faculty is well trained and supportive; not only academically, but also in several other areas of interest.
