Wonderful place to do research and make friends along the way. The professors also become friends and guide you through your academic career.

The atmosphere is highly research-driven. Students do summer internships in India and abroad each year. First years prefer to do it in their own college to get to know the culture. Second years usually go out in India to various labs. Third-year students try foreign internships via various scholarships. Fourth years usually start their thesis work in the lab of their choice. This may be within the college or some other lab. But students from any year can join the labs of their choice in the institute if the professor agrees and start to work on their own research eventually.

We do not have a placement cell as most of the students choose to pursue a Ph.D. after the 5-year course. A small percentage chooses other options such as MBA.

Festivals like Onam, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Basant Panchmi etc are celebrated among students and faculty. College fest named Insomnia, Inter IISER Sports meet, Inter IISER Cultural meet are big meet ups with huge participation across the city and different IISERs across the country. There are various clubs that keep you busy and prepared for these meet ups.

The fee is about 31K for general category. Mess fee is about 15K for 1 semester. Some students get scholarship but it isn't enough to cover all the expenses for the year. The fee increase every year has been a concern that has been raised recently to the authorities.

I receive a KVPY scholarship. You have to clear the written aptitude exam and then an interview round.

This is the best part about college. No bullying whatsoever. There is no junior senior. We're all friends. Very accepting towards any culture, gender, religion, race etc. It was almost shocking to the extent that for the first few days it feels like everyone is pretending to be nice but they actually are.

Yes, It is compulsory to stay in Hostels. We stay in double occupancy in the first two years of college. In the third year, every student gets a single room with a balcony, bed, mattress, cupboard, and study table.

The senior students are extremely helpful. The answered all of questions on all social media sites.

I had taken PCB in class 12 and was interested in pursuing biology. I got to know about IISER from a friend who visited there on their foundation day. They showed students their labs ajd that got me interested. So I searched up methods to get admission and came across KVPY scholarship. I gave this exam, cleared the interview and hence got the admission.

The faculty are extremely welcoming to the students. Any and all questions are taken. They tell about their research with such enthusiasm that one falls in love with the subject all over again. You can visit their offices and labs almost any number of times for queries.
