I'm really interested in maths and the course structure best suited my interests. It involved probability, statistics and even economics. The institute is the biggest in India and provides a diverse competitive environment. I believe such an environment leads to self growth and would keep one engaged.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course syllabus is well up to date and includes topics one would study for data science profile. Also including economics course and the option for breadths, this course provides one to pursue any field of interest from mathematics to economics.
Placement Experience
The big tech companies first visit IITs only. 100% placement rate is common and this year Kharagpur observed the fastest placement in all IIT, at a record 5 days. The packages offered are as high as 1 crore. The average CTC in my department is around 25 lakhs.
College Events
Extracurricular activities are very stressed upon. All are encouraged to participate in them, even if they don't have prior skill. The cultural fests are at a large scale and the technical fests are really great.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have availed the Inspire Scholarship. It is offered by the government to the student pursuing pure sciences. It awards each student 60000 per year. It can be availed by students having MSc/BSc course, having under 10000 rank in mains or certain percentile in their respective board.
Campus Life
Sport facilities are state of the art. Wifi is available throughout the campus, though your phone may not get enough 4G signals due to low connectivity. Library is one of the largest in India and is well equipped. The digital library is one of a kind.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is, in case of 1st year, a triple sharing room. Food is okayish. However, hygiene is maintained at a good standard with regular cleaning. The rooms are individually cleaned and the bathroom are cleaned daily. There are many facilities too. We have a specialised tech room containing all the electronics one could require. There is also a library, music room and games room too.
