The college of my Choice

Our college is definitely the best thing that happened to me. Students from over 18 states take admission. Thus it is a good cultural exchange. We get to know about people across the countries and grow together.

I gave COMEDK exam to get a seat in the prestigious college. I had a state rank of around 15,000. I wanted a seat in Chemical Engineering and I was lucky enough to be a part of SDM family. SDM group of institution is widely renowned in Karnataka. Thus I chose this college.

It is really good. Being an autonomous college it has full flexibility to modify its curriculum as per the industry requirement. Our college keeps on updating its syllabus as per the present need. We have timely industry visits which gives us an insight to what is actually expected of we engineers. We also get to know how an industry works due to such visits. Every department offers a wide range of electives so that students can choose the subjects as per their interest. The electives are also introduced based on the suggestions given by the industries visited or the companies that recruit our students. We have electives in 3rd semester that are branch specific. But the electives in 4th semester are open to all branches. We also have certificate courses in our college related to our branches as well as personality development classes for our complete growth. The curriculum is student as well as industry oriented. Thus the learning becomes relaxed and more knowledge oriented as there is no pressure. We are lucky to have a curriculum like this.

Very few get internship. But the internship offered is really as high as 15,000 per month. But there are off campus internships as well. We are asked to do summer training during our inter semester recces. Our college supports by providing recommendation letters. Our college also has joint venture with many industries which offer internship to all students who are interested in their companies. I had undergone internship in ACG Capsules Mumbai. Our HOD as well as placement officer put all their efforts to get internship in the esteemed company. It was a learning experience. We were also asked to submit a report based on what we learnt during the internship. The report is thoroughly examined by our college.

We have pretty good placements in our college. Over 75 companies visit our campus every year. This year out of 420 students,305 students are placed yet. Many companies are yet to visit. Thus the performance is satisfactory. The highest offer was 15 lakh which was by Goldman Sach. Companies like Dell,HP,Sony,L&T,Mercedes Benz,Tech Mahindra, Oracle,Y Media Labs,PSPL,TCS,Tata Motors etc are some of the companies that visit our campus. The average package offered is 3.25lakh per annum. SDM always gets positive feedback about the quality of students recruited by the recruiters.

We have a college level fest which is Fiesta. It is celebrated in odd semester. In our even semester we have national level fest Insignia. It is a techno-cultural fest. Students from all over India participate in it. We also have performance by eminent personalities which also attracts a huge amount of crowd. SDM utsav is organised by SDM family of Dharwad. SDM college of engineering dental and medical are the members. SDM utsav is celebrated after every 3 years. It is considered one of the most famous festival of Dharwad city where all the big personalities give their performances. The festival goes for 3 days. It is a festival of joy and splendor.We also have freshers talent day where all the 1st year students showcase their talent. This event is held in odd semester. In even semester hostel day is celebrated as a farewell to final year students.

The fee structure is feasible. There are 2 categories of fees. The students getting admission through CET-K have to pay lower fees. Whereas the ones getting admission through COMED-K exam have to pay comparatively higher fees. In both the cases it is feasible. CET students have to pay 40,000 whereas COMEDK students have to pay 1.1 lakh. The fee paid is nothing compared to the placement offered.

There is no scholarship by college. But Karnataka Bank has a tie up with our college which offers loans at a nominal rate. The loan covers entire expenses.

Our college attends VTU fest every year as well as sports meet. Our college stood 3rd place in VTU fest. All the expenses for VTU fest is borne by the college. Active participation is encouraged. Our sports team consecutively gets laurels for the college and also plays national level competiton.

The hostel is like a home away from home. Hostels are clean and hygienic. Our hostels are timely cleaned by workers. After every 6 hours the toilet is cleaned by workers. Laundry service is provided in case of extra money. The food provided is of good quality and nutritious. Every college that visits our mess gets highly impressed by the quality of food served. The food is served 4 times a day. We are provided with icecream on every saturday and sweets on sundays and festivals. Fruits are served every alternative day. Our mess offers both north indian as well as south indian food. We have central mess where boys are served food in ground floor and girls in 1st floor.

Most of the alumni pursue higher education abroad. The % of alumni pursuing highers abroad is really good. Many of the students have done various startups. Rest are in a good position in their respective fields.

We have 2 semester exams every year. For every semester 3 internal exams are conducted for 20 marks each. Out of the 3 best of 3 is considered for internals. 10 marks is in the hands of the concerned faculty who assess based on attendance,attitude,surprise tests and presentations. Our college firmly believes on academic as well as personality development of the students. Thus we are required to give presentations for every subject every semester. Internals constitute 50% of the marks. Rest 50 is based on the final exam which is for 100 marks. It is converted to 50. This system ensures that students study on regular basis.

The faculty is extremely qualified and dedicated. They make sure that our syllabus is completed before time. They take the best efforts to make the students understand the concept by conventional classroom teaching,notes,movies,videos,pictures etc. Faculty are experienced and also have good industry experience. Most have done Ph.d Under the guidance of our faculty every year chemical engineering students from my college are consecutively winning state level project competition. Without the efforts and guidance of our faculty this wouldn't have been possible. All our faculty do consultancy for various industries.
