COLLEGE REVIEW

The college management was quite helpful in the entire journey of my student life.

The course curriculum is divided into eight semesters for a B.Tech course. Practicals are included in the course which makes it research oriented. Students can take up projects under professors for research work. Exam structure is to test the knowledge of students which is conducted in a fair way. Industrial trainings are provided in the vacations.

For mining graduates, companies like CIL, TATA Steel, Vedanta, Rio Tinto, Arcellor Mittal, Jindal, etc. come for campus and final year students are eligible for participating in the placement drive. Internships are also awarded to 3rd year students as well. In Mining, the college had almost 100% placement.

CONCETTO was the technical fest involving all the technical branches and was held in October. SRIJAN was the spring cultural fest and was organized in February. Many institutes participated in the fests which were held in a grand manner. Events like robotics were held in CONCETTO.

Fee structure was feasible. Student loans were available for giving the fees. The college provided fee breakdown. Only mess fess for hostel students had to be paid in addition to the college fees. Fees were collected semester wise and were Rs 19000 and Rs 17000 respectively during 2009-13.

I had opted for CBSE scholarship facility. The criteria was to secure more than 80% in XII exams and had to join an institute for graduation.

Gender ratio wasn't good in IITs and it was almost 1:5 ratio. Campus life was quite happening with many cultural and technical societies to get enrolled for extracurricular activities. Annual sports meet was also there. Students were also encouraged for social work and there was no biasedness based on gender, caste, etc.

I had opted for a hostel. In IITs, almost all students are provided hostel facilities. It was based on a twin sharing basis. Hostel rooms were clean and mess facility was hygenic. The gym was also provided for maintaining health.

Alumni network is quite strong and helps students for internships and job placements. Any passed out alumnus can also seek help from the college students for any work.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is being conducted for entry into IITs. It is generally conducted in April when all XII Board exams are over. Now it is two phases - JEE Mains & JEE Advanced. Students with more than 60% marks in XII are eligible for entrance into IITs.

Each subject had a specific lecturer attached to it whose minimum qualification was Ph.D. Some professors have industrial experience as well. The average age was approx. 40 and was an amalgamation of junior and senior professors. They also carried out industry-driven research works.
