My beloved university

Need to re-look course curriculum to be more practical and time-oriented.

The course is for 4 years duration and divided into 8 semesters. Each of 6 months period. It encompasses the theoretical portion more. I think practical portion needs to be increased more as this is the more experimental based course. Computer-based 3D modelling of drugs should be learned which lacked. But this institute attracts the best brains from the very remote parts of the country as the cost of education is very low and heavily subsidized. At my time annual tuition fee was Rs. 280 and semester charges Rs.50. So from very poor financial health family can afford their child to pursue courses here. Last year there is the opportunity of industrial training and final project and viva vice.

I got my job in campus interview. Here students can get a job in IT, pharma companies. Even some NGO also pick students.

Annual fest organised by engineering, science, arts separately. These are huge events where youths of Kolkata plunged into their creativities and put up their talents. It's used to be nights for gen Y. In this night more than 15000 people assembled in OAT ( Open Air Theatre).

Very nominal. In my time annual tuition fees were Rs. 280 and for two semesters Rs. 50. Now it increased to monthly Rs. 400 as per my last info. For libraries, students can access the departmental library as a well central library. Each student can keep a book for 2 weeks.

No. But for deserving candidates, lots of scholarships were there. It may be the central government run or state government or by alumni.

Campus life was vivid and full of masti. In our class gender ratio was Male vs female 4: 1. Lots of games both outdoor, indoor facilities were there. There was a photography club, mountaineering club, acting clubs. So people having extracurricular activities may pursue and engage other areas of their choices on the campus. Many Tollywood stars are from this university. People from the northeast, Africa, SAAF countries are coming to this prestigious university and many people starts their political careers from here.

No. But hostels are there where 4 students share a big room. Each student gets an iron, cupboard, a table, a chair and a bed. The rooms fitted with fans and electricity is good. Bed fees were around Rs. 15 per month at my time.

We have strong students alumni. They supported financially as well with books, seminars etc. Students going the US for higher studies get support from Alumni from selecting universities to accommodation.

Through Joint entrance exam engineering. The institute is the best institute to not only Eastern India but whole India. It was declared as 5 stars university and renowned for its placement. This institute having several hostels, canteens, indoor stadium, open theatre and cultural mix box of Bengal. Even foreign students come to the institute. With B.pharma, people have lots of opportunities to go for Biotech, a postgraduate degree in pharma, molecular biology, nanotechnology etc.

Faculties are good except one or two who were part of the quote system. But it is true for all institutes. They were linked to Industries and brought projects for PhD holders. Some were very young. They brought lots of new technologies and concepts. Dr KRS was my favourite teacher.
