Remarks

* As per my ranks in JEE Mains, Electrical Engineering in NIT Rourkela was the best course I could have got * I had heard about the reputation of this College from my School Seniors i.e. about its Faculties, Hostels, Extra-Curricular Activities and most importantly about the placements in NIT Rourkela * I had always loved the basics of Electricity that we were taught in our Intermediate, which led me to chose Electrical Engineering.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Our Courses are well updated as per the recent requirements that are needed in the Industrial and Research field. Recently in 2017, The Course structure was changed, Some Subjects credits were reduced. We are given Industry Exposure in the 3rd Year of our Graduation. We give many visits to SAIL ( Steel Plant), Rourkela as a part of the subjects that we are taught during that period. It helps us to know how we implement these We have many strict faculties over here in the Electrical Department. Among many, I find Prof. Anup Kumar Panda and Prof. Pravat Ray as very good professors. They are quite student-friendly. In my first year, when we had common classes for all departments, I came across one Maths Professor, Dr. Suchandan Kayal. He was one of the best professors I have come across.

Internships Opportunities

None, On-Campus Internships are for third year undergraduates. As I am in second year, so i didn't sit for on-campus internships/placements now.

Placement Experience:

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
