Remarks

Ju is an unique blend of art, culture, technological innovation and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course is relatively modern and there are subjects geared towards industry specific needs but these are usually in the final year by which time most students are already placed. There are no industry visits organized by the college. However there is a good atmosphere for undergraduate research as students are encouraged to work with professors on various projects as early as their second year.

Placement Experience

4

This year our college was visited by Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Samsung R&D, wells Fargo, PWC, Synopsis, Texas Instruments and many other reputed companies. These companies usually hire both interns and full time employees. I secured an internship at Samsung R&D in my third year, and after the internship they made me a pre placement offer. Roughly 80% of the students sitting for placements get a job.

College Events

4.5

We host a technical fest "jontro tontro" and a couple of cultural fests. The cultural fests are called "sanskriti" and are hosted by the arts department and engineering department. The fests attract huge crowds from all over Kolkata. Both students and renowned bands and artists play in the cultural fests.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is extremely affordable. It is so designed to make higher education available to economically backward students. The fees total roughly 20k for all 4 years of study which is very cheap.

Fees and Financial Aid

I haven't opted for any scholarships or student loans but several of my friends have. The criteria for scholarships are low income and academic excellence.

Campus Life

3.5

The engineering streams are mostly male but the gender ratio is healthier compared to several top iits. However because of the arts and science streams the overall gender ratio on campus is roughly 50%. There are several clubs and societies one may join, like science club, photography club, chess club, code club. The campus is very diverse as it hosts people from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is quite extensive with passouts spread across various industries and countries. In my experience most of the seniors are very helpful.

Admission

JU is the best university one can enroll in through WBJEE. The admission process requires the students to fill out a form applying for the WBJEE entrance. If you rank in the top 1200 then you get into one of the engineering streams in JU. The stream you get depends on the preference list that you have to provide during admission and your WBJEE rank. My rank was 234 and I enrolled in ETCE dept which was my second choice after CSE. There are 3 rounds of counseling. Each round sees some students opt out of JU which creates vacancies that are filled rankwise. So there is a chance one might get their desired department after all 3 rounds despite having a lower rank. There is also an internal round after admission where students can upgrade to the next higher choice in their preference list because of further vacancies.

Faculty

4

The faculty consists mostly of elder professors with very few qualified young teachers coming in. My department has associate professors and tenured professors with the former being very few in number. All the teachers have phDs and some are quite renowned in their respective research domains.

Placement Experience:

I don't have idea about the placements since I'm in first year now. But I talked to a senior and got to know that many got multiple offers in 4th year. I also head that packages are around 4 lpa which is a decent and also a rise than the previous year.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Course Curriculum Overview:

It's my decision from class 12 that I will do civil engineering, so I chose the civil branch, the course curriculum is well and the teaching level is good but the main problem is lab, there is very limited classes for lab, so I think they should improve there.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
