Remarks
Its mostly relaxed but there were one wardens who were kind of biased against NRI students when problems used to arise. like the parents come from the gulf to the campus because two guys kicked a ball around. I mean I wasn't involved but it seemed very excessive. There were worse things that could happen on the campus that went unpunished.
Course Curriculum Overview
First year has all the fundamentals, Physics, Chemistry, two courses of Math, Basics of computer science, mechanical, applied mechanics. 2nd year onwards, depending upon the branch, you have compulsary courses and a few electives you can take from any dept with hod approval. At the end of your course you have to meet the credit requirements that's all.So there are unit tests, tutorials, midterms and end terms per semester. There are also marked assignments. Midterms and endterms are mandatorily present for every course. The mark split and how many marks are given in assignments and unit tests depend upon the prof in question.
Placement Experience
My class had a placement percentage of 80 something percent, I don't remember exactly. You are registered on the college placement website where you get a list of colleges that are expected to visit. Your branch placement coordinator can be contacted for further details.
College Events
Incident - Cultural Fest (Way more fun than any other fest in college). Popular indie bands and Indian pop singers come for concerts apart from other miscellaneous. Engineer - Technical Fest there would be workshops and exhibitions and other miscellaneous competitions. Dandiya night : Just comes to mind, everyones always excited during this time for some reason.
Fee Structure And Facilities
I'd got in through lateral entry through DASA which is a scheme for NRIs and foreign national, so it was expensive, 7000$ per year. I think now it has been increased to 10000$. It is paid through NEFT. Apart from that I had to pay the Institute fees and hostel fees. which come around to 20-30k rupees
Campus Life
Lots of club activities you can get behind. IEEE, IE, Rotoract. Just have to get selected in second year. Its pretty tolerant with regards to everything. No such conflicts. Its pretty diverse. Girls have block timings though till 9:00pm i think. That causes some murmurs.
Hostel Facilities
Yes. First year depends on your luck, you could be sharing with one or two people depending upon which block you get. 2nd year you can get together with people and draw chits for a wing in 3rd, 4th and i think 8th block. Third year again you have to form a group and draw chits for a wing in one of the mega blocks. Single Rooms. Bliss.
Alumni/Alumna
Not especially helpful as far as seniors are concerned unless you are involved in club activities. Everyone minds their own career sort of. Collaborations are kind of one off and rare.
Admission
I applied through their DASA scheme. Back then you had to write SAT 2 Physics, Chemistry and Maths and score above 2200 to get into the branches (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science). You could submit an online application on their website, dasanit.org I believe its called and submit your sat registration number to report you r sat marks after taking them. Make sure you hold on to your SAT admit card. It has a number that is mentioned nowhere else. and has to be shown at the admission counter. I don't know if this is outdated information.
Faculty
Very erudite. But I would join the college just to experience I.R Rao sir's teaching again, even though I didn't do very well in his subject. Quite an eye opening experience for me.My major project guide Dr. Punekar was also great. Gave me a better idea of the seriousness that is expected when working in the industry.
