Remarks
I have mentioned many negative and positive points in the above answered questions. So I consider my college to be adequately admirable in general terms. Just that as nothing is perfect, it also needs to be a bit more focussed on academic concepts and learning by well experienced and interested faculty members.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course structure focuses on subjects required for the understanding of the concepts of material science but still lacks a bit of practicality of the content required for research. We have mid term and end term examinations with some quizzes and assignments in between. Moreover, we are also provided with our lab examinations at almost the end of the semester, based on the labs conducted every week throuought the semester. It is not so well structured as students are kept free during the initial months while the last 2 weeks are packed with all quizzes, assignments and also the final examinations.
Placement Experience
Yes. Our college provides campus placements and internships for 3rd year and 4th year students. This time though our department wasnt provided with core companies(for metallurgy) and much were of non core (companies for consultancy , marketing, finance etc.). Listing some of the companies that visited college were JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Microsoft, Future first, Sandisk, Samsung R&D, Mckinsey, Fab etc. These companies provided appreciative stipends too(starting from 15000-75000). Moreover I have to pursue higher studies in research, hence I was looking for a research internship, to get a hands on experience for my masters. Now I am interning at UNSW, Australia.
College Events
Our college celebrates all the national festivals and also other technical, non technical events performed and participated by the students.(for ex- cultural fests like pecfest inter society fests of our cultural clubs(separate for all clubs), technical fests like open house etc. for students to represent technical projects, and national fetsivals like repulblic day, independence day etc.). These events are performed in auditorium or open air theatre with students performing and participating, sometimes faculties also make speeches or participate in other ways.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is like 60000 per semester and separate for hostel and mess(60000 again) which i feel is not so feasible but fine to some extent. College also provides scholarships for students not financially sufficient and for the top rankers.
Fees and Financial Aid
I know about the merit scholarships that the college provides to top 3 students (no fee for semester). This scholarship is provided on the highest cgpa students in the class. Another one was the top jee main rankers in the class at the time of admission ( for 1st year)
Campus Life
Students are provided with various technical and non technical societies throughout our curriculum, which makes the college life more of a good learning experience. We have sports like basketball, tennis, cricket, netball, chess etc and inter college and state level competetions. Next for cultural ones we have dramatics for dance and drama, editorial bords(all english, hindi, punjabi separately) for content writing, also punjab folk dance and drama, art and photography clubs also. Thirdly we have many social groups like NSS and Punarkriti that help in social service and awareness about social issues by conducting lectures, workshops etc. Fourthly we have technical clubs that provide extra knowledge about our couses(for example Indian institute of metallurgy for my course). These include societies for all departments and also some for the coding subjects.
Hostel Facilities
I am a day scholar, so not much idea. Heard from friends, the infrastructure and food is fine. Although a bit more efficient in boys hostel as they have 5 hostels so they are much more spacious and well regulated, on the other side girls have 2 hostels, that too 1 main hostel is occupied more, thereby making it a bit conjusting. Secondly boys are provided with non vegetarian meals too, whereas girls dont have such priveledge. On the whole, I can rate them just fine, because these problems and much more are mentioned in every college and institution. Hence we are still at a better state. Moreover, our new director have changed some rules and have eased the conditions for girls(extending the in time of girls and reduced that of boys, making them equal), which is a good initiative. Hence I expect the other things will also get better with time.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes, our alumni network is wuite interactive and helping. As we have attended many instructive and constructive sessions regarding internships and placements, based on their experiences. They showed a path to get to the destinations to some while showing the availing options to the others that were struggling for their future choices.
Admission
I walked in through the ranking of JEE MAINS examination that is conducted throughout the country. My rank gave me a chance to take material science as the course and I was also enlightened about the course while I researched more on it. Now I am liking my course and subjects and doing well.
Faculty
Faculty is well qualified for the subjects, but some subjects need special focus on certain concepts that are not being attended to the sufficient extent. Secondly some of the faculty members lack in their interest to teach students effectively and more practically. Its almost on students part to achieve their understanding about the subjects and manage their grades
