Honest review of Pillai College of Engineering, New Panvel

I got admission on the basis of my CET score. Admission is also given to students on the basis of their JEE Mains score. Apart from that, some seats are reserved for South-Indian students. I preferred this college over others because this college is within 20 minutes drive from my home. Also, I heard from seniors that this college takes more efforts to groom students to be industry-ready. I can't say about placements, but the quality of teaching in this college is better than other colleges Navi Mumbai.

I chose Computer Engineering because I opted for Computer Science as my vocational courses in 11th and 12th std. Moreover, I am interested in coding and be up to date with the latest technology. This college follows Mumbai University syllabus, which is not up to date, honestly. Most of the faculties take efforts to make sure that every student is cleared with the concept. A class consists of around 65 students. Some faculties make use of a projector for teaching whereas some use whiteboard. 2 unit tests are conducted in every semester. Those can be easily passed, provided that a student studies. Most of the teachers provide a question bank for unit tests.

College provides internship opportunities for students. Internships in fields like IoT, Machine Learning, Web Development, etc are offered. I haven't done any internship offered by a college so far, but I am aware of the fact that it offers internship opportunities. Training and placement cell of the college also provide details of off-campus internships for students.

Overall, the placements are good. Companies start visiting the campus from 4th year. TCS, Capgemini, Byju's, Jio, Ugam Solutions and many more visit the campus. The average package offered is not too high, but now since the college has been given an A+ grade by NAAC, the average package will be increased. If a student has knowledge about a particular technology that the company expects, then he/she will get placed, regardless of the academics. But, every company has a minimum pointer threshold that a student must achieve.

The fees for my course (Computer Engineering) are around 120000 per semester for general category student. Scholarships are provided by the government for students belonging to SC, NT, OBC, EBC, etc categories. OBC students pay around 60,000 per semester. Instructions to avail the scholarship will be given via a notice from college as soon as the government asks them to do so. In case if a student is unable to pay full fees due to a valid reason then he can approach college for some assistance.

Overall campus life is cool and peaceful. The gender ratio is also pretty balanced. The fest of our college "Alegria" is the best and biggest college fest in entire Navi Mumbai. It takes place during the month of February. Apart from that, various tech fests like "BitFest" are also conducted. All the reference books in MU syllabus are available in enough quantities in the library. Newspaper, magazines are also available. Students can participate in various sports like Cricket, football, basketball, table-tennis, etc. The college has teams for these sports. Various student bodies in the college conduct technical and non-technical workshops. Yoga and meditation sessions are also conducted in between.
