Dikshya Shree Rath's Review On National Institute Of Technology - [NIT], Rourkela

I took AIEEE All India Engineering Entrance Examination. I dont remember the exact score had an All India rank of 9000 and state rank of 131 and based on selection criteria and all I got this college in my listing as i had opted for it. Moreover NIT Rourkela is in my very own state of Odisha and ranks the second among the NITs with the second largest campus in the country in terms of area after IIT Kharagpur. ABP News rewarded NIT rourkela with Outstanding Engineering Institute (East) and Best Government Engineering College.

It was pretty good. There was a balanced amalgam of theory and practical classes. After first year of engineering we were allowed to select one different subject from any other department and from pre final year onwards we selected subjects of own in department also. That gave us a lot of choices to pursue.

A lot of companies like Goldman sachs Microsoft,Dell,Intel,TI,NI came and took for internship via the Training and placement office and students also applied for internships in DAAD and MITACS where full fledged scholarship was provided the professors and training and placement office supported this a lot stipend varied depending on work and company.

Placement statistics of my year Oracle Finances- 6.7 lpa,Oracle applications 7.5 lpa,Microsoft 10 lpa,CDOt 9 lpa.

The college fests are celebrated with great pomp and show and grandeur. Innovision which is the technical fest was a 3 day event with all technical clubs like robotics etc was held. Dance perfomances,Djs were an integral part. Celebrities like Sonu Nigam,KK,Neeraj Sridhar,Jonita Gandhi,Salim Suleman have performed. The NITRUTSAV being the cultural fest has a beauty of its own with more than 100 events organised by students for everyone. We have a oarticipateion of 1000 from other colleges of the country. Enterpreunership Cell Holds an event to promote enterpreunernship skills with talks from renowned people.

It is feasible as of now government has announced a 100% fee hike which is very sad. I paid average of 40000 per semester including academic and fooding and accomodation.

The campus life offered is one of the best with proper mixture of academics,extra curriculars and the awesome infrastructure and facilities adds up to its glory. Every hostel had 2 parties per semester. Maintenance of the campus overall is too good. There is no discrimination of any sort at all. All great friendships start and memories build owing to this campus life.

Being an Odia and the college located and run by Odia people the food worked pretty well for me. There are 2 girls hostels and 7 boys hostel with Vikram sarabhai hall of residence for boys is one among the largest hostels in the country with capacity of 1500. There are 2 seater 1 seater rooms and dorms also to accomodate students comfortably.

Neither hectic,Nor chilled out. It was balalnced. In a semester of 4.5 months. We had 2 exams one mid semester of 30 marks and end semester of 50 marks weightage. There were assessments by professors on timely basis for 20 marks which totals to 100 marks.

The faculty wee good and experienced and always helped the students every one had great experience and knowledge. Not just academics not we also got guidance for a good life from our professors.
