My experience at Directorate of distance education, University of Jammu

The Directorate has proper infrastructure in the form of halls for Personal Contact Programme (PCP), seminar presentation, viva-voce and counseling sessions. Directorate of Distance Education has also established a network of UG Learners Support Centres at Rajouri, Kathua, Udhampur, Bhaderwah, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar to ensure effective academic and administrative support to distance learners. The Directorate offers an opportunity to the P.G. distance learners to enroll as NSS volunteers for their holistic personality development. Even though it is a college for distance education but it provides ample opportunities and encourages the students to get involved into the college and it feels like a family to be there.

This course is really good in DDE, University of Jammu and it adds to the profile more because of the combination of subjects it provides. which does not make the day and I personally enjoy doing the subject because of the internships it provide and even I get the opportunity to work in team and collaborate with other college students. The external exams are conducted two times in a year and the internal assessment are conducted twice before the external examinations.This also helps us to revise the chapters before the exam and the teachers make us thorough with the subject.

My college various placements. Reputed companies like HCL, Hyundai, SBI, Jammu & Kashmir Bank, etc., visited the campus for placements. Roles like executives, managers, HR, accountants were offered. Most of them got selected for their jobs. Our university also has a placement cell which acts as a mediator between the students and the organisations. In addition to this, we have career counselling cell which guides the students about what opportunities can be grabbed and how to gear up for them.

Fee structure is quite affordable for the students. b.Ed is a course for 2 years and the fee is not too high so that everyone couldn't afford it. Usually the fee for b.Ed varies every year based on the number of students because in distance education people do not usually prefer to go for b.Ed.

The college provide different opportunities for their students to perform and participate in extra curricular activities. This encourages the students not only to get involved into their subjects but also encourages them to show their talent inside and outside the college campus. The college conducts various debates, seminars based on gender roles gender bias cultural and traditional values and many more. as it is a government university it collaborates with other colleges in conducting various seminar for conferences which builds the the morale of the students also.

As it is a government university the hostel facility is really good and the hostel provides the students with all the abilities as far possible. From proper drinking facility to proper sanitation facilities every thing is provided to the students. From library to sports rooms from TV rooms to Wi-Fi rooms and many more facilities. There are 5 sets of hostels 3 for boys and Two for girls. Girls hostels are provided with special facilities and they are highly and CCTV surveillance. Attendance is taken everyday in boys as well as girls hostel. There is proper security provided in both the hostels. The range starts with the basic amount of INR 2500 which is affordable by most of the students.

Directorate of Distance Education is a public university where admission is on merit basis. I opted for B.Ed the previous year in this institute and this is one of the best course offered by this college. Candidates who have passed Bachelor Degree Examination with 45% aggregate marks for General Category and 40% marks for the reserved categories of SC/ST and others. Students who have teaching experience also can apply for this course. 1st preference is give to those who have finished their diploma in education.

The faculty of the B.Ed department are really encouraging and enthusiastic who encourages students and every field and help them to become more creative. B.Ed is a course where students have to be creative enough and the faculties leave no stones unturned in doing so. The help the students by giving creative ideas and motivating them. I must say that my faculties are a kind of energy booster for us without whom we cannot succeed in any fields. The teachers are highly qualified with their doctorates and have presented their papers nationally and internationally. The teachers don't show sympathy on the students rather they are empathetic towards the students and this encourages the students to perform better in their exams and their internships as well.
