Remarks
Nirmalgiri College is a college affiliated to Kannur University in Kerala. It offers varied courses spread across science, commerce and arts. Hostel and other facilities are provided. Fees range is quite economical.
Course Curriculum Overview
A year is divided into 2 semesters, thus accordingly, 2 final exams are conducted in a year. Along with finals exams, internal test, class tests, and projects are used to assess a student's performance.
Placement Experience
When I was studying here, the campus placement opportunities were a little bleak for arts and commerce students. Science students got selected for jobs at Federal Bank Limited, WIPRO Ltd., South Indian Bank, that offered some decent packages.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Total fees for my 3 years of graduation came to around ?8000, more or less, which is very feasible for a college that offers many courses. It is almost the same for B.Com. Reserved quotas are given some concession.
Fees and Financial Aid
A number of scholarships are available to students. Availing them is easy, as you can just register online. Some of the scholarships are State Merit Scholarship, Central Sector Scholarship, Pratibha Scholarship and Suvarna Jubilee Merit Scholarship.
Campus Life
Over time, students have formed clubs/societies which are voluntary and open to all. Some of these are- Eco Club, Debate Club, Quiz Club. There are frequent events that bring students together, lessening the discrimination gap that might have been created.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facility is provided for both boys and girls. There are limited seats, thus it is recommended to book seats in advance. Jawahar Hostel is a boys hostel. Girls hostels include Nirmala Bhavan, Rani Jai Hostel, Alphonsa Bhavan St. Joseph's Hostel. Safety is ensured.
Admission
For admission, I first had to register/apply through Kannur University's website. I placed Nirmalagiri College as my 1st preference and when the merit list was out, I got it. They offer a variety of good courses but I was particularly interested in History, thus opted for B.A. in History.
Faculty
We had greatly qualified faculty for our particular course. They were dedicated towards our success, and taught us more than books could teach. They were thorough with their assigned subjects, and I'm sure the present professors are just as good.
