Devesh Sharma's Review On Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University - [SBSU], Firozpur

I took Punjab CET examination of 2003 and secured good rank of 1635 to get seat in this Government Institution in Mechanical Engineering stream. I opted this institution because of highly qualified faculty mostly PHD from IIT and other good universities and also because the institution is Punjab Govt promoted. This engineering college has many programs which are NBA Accredited and the autonomous now.

Major subjects were:Strength of Materials, Numerical methods, Theory of Machines and Thermodynamics.Industrial training of 6 months in the 6th semester.

Internship experience was good and with the active involvement of Alumni the places of internships are reputed. The normal stipend is around 5000 pm. Many amumni had their internships in Maruti Suzuki, Tata Group, BHEL,Swaraj Mazda,Sonalika etc.

Placements happen through both on campus and off campus drives. Many Students get recruited to many top core engineering companies such as L&T, Tata Chemicals,Tata Consulting Engineers and in IT sector many are recruited by Infosys, Wipro,Tech Mahindra &TCS.

ISTE Technical Fest in which many professional programmes such as Paper Presentation, Quiz, Debate and Group Discussions.Society for Extra Curricular activities organizes 'Jashan' as the Annual Fest. This is has many cultural prorammes such as Dance,Singing, music and many more. Other Colleges from various cities are also invited for participation.

Because this college is Govt operated the overall expense could be half of that of that of a private institution including Food and Accommodation. The university fees is same as that for private colleges but food and accommodation are very economical as compared to private engineering colleges. University fees per semester us around Rs. 25000. Accommodation is around Rs. 15000 annual. Food on average costs around Rs. 1000 per Month.

I did not avail any loan for my education during the course. However, education loans are readily available through Credila and SBI.

This Institution is famous across Punjab for maintenance of strict discipline on campus. Also, senior faculty members become Hostel Wardens to deal with student issues. Hence, intolerance cases are practically non existent.

Most of the Alumni are based across the globe and working with various reputed national and international organizations. Alumni network is active but is coordinated by the Training and Placement cell. The Alumni network is being groomed very well and requires more networking.

Exam structure is Semester based and B.Tech program has 8 semesters spanning 4 years. Mornings have lectures and afternoon has tutorials to solve numerical questions. Laboratories and workshops are frequent but the schedules can be well managed if planned well.

Excellent. Most of faculty members especially from Mechanical Engineering and Chemical engineering are PHD from reputed institutions and have released research papers in national and international platforms.
