Remarks

To conclude, PVPP is a pretty decent college having all the rite ingredients to churn out future engineers. Could not pick out any bad remarks. The one of the few colleges offering marine engineering in Mumbai.

Entrance Preview

Took the MH-CET(Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) in 2005 scoring 128 out of 200 which is 64%The main reason this college was opted, was due to its location which was nearby home and was easily accessible. Other reason being, rest of the colleges had a higher admission cutoffs.MHCET was rather newly introduced then, and though other colleges accepted admission on it, PVPP opted for their own criteria and decided to consider the HSC PCM(Physics Chemistry Mathematics) scoring. There was no admission interview conducted, only the scoring secured my seat.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum was pretty thorough considering the IT industry. The first year for all the engineering branches shared a lot of common subjects such as electronics, telecommunications, carpentary, welding, metal work etc. Later the branches focused on their related subjects, for example, mine had computer programming, data security, data analysis. data mining while electronics concentrated more on hardware circuitary etc. There were no electives in my course. Computer and IT engineering shared a similar curriculum throughout.

Internships Opportunities

Our stream was not offered internship by any company at that time. I assume, in the IT industry internships is not offered generally. Not sure whether other streams were offered any.

Placement Experience

3

The financial crisis of 2007ヨ08 had reduced the job opportunities then. We had the following companies which held campus placement drives: Tata Consulting Services(TCS), Capgemini, Infosys, Wipro, TPG Consulting Pvt. Ltd etc. The average package offered to fresh IT graduates were roughly around 2-3Lac/annum. Around 30-40% of the batch were successful in securing a job via campus placement.

College Events

3.5

There were separate Technical. Cultural and fusion festivals held in a year namely Tantra, Fusion, Fission. The degree and diploma streams had separate festivals. There was a single cultural festival held every year for all the streams. I was part of the finding sponsors team. Had managed to rope in Mid-Day and Reliance WebWorld. The festivals were advertised online and registration booths were setup at other organizations too. Mostly technical festivals saw more crowd for similar streamed colleges.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I started in 2005 and passed out in 2009, 4years of engineering. The fees on a average was 60000/annum. I would consider this as feasible, but thats entirely a subjective opinion.

Campus Life

3

I could say the college campus catered a mixed breed of students belonging to different backgrounds. And the campus provided a perfect environment for everyone to get along. The techno cultural festivals invited everyone to participate, experience and showcase their viewpoints and talents. There were 2 open grounds surrounding the college structure, one ahead one behind which hosted sports tournaments of cricket, volleyball, basketball, football.Labs were open all day for pupils to engage and experiment.

Hostel Facilities

3

There was no hostel facility for all the streams. Only the marine engineering had one. Haven't experienced the mess either. Although the college canteen was a pretty cool place to hangout with a vast open area full of coconut trees. The food was good too with reasonable rates.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors were always available and open for discussion if approached. Taking about alumni, during the final years of engineering when placements were at peak, there were discussion sessions arranged with successful alumni of the college.

Exam Structure

Engineering exams are never too hectic, especially the Mumbai university exams. There is lot of buffer provided for every subject to be well prepared. Lectures and lab hours were also moderate in terms of pressure.

Faculty

3

The faculty was pretty good, although sometimes there were temporary lecturers who were passed out from a similar stream and just a few years ahead of us, teaching us. The lack of teaching experience was frustrating at times.Should particularly mention the head of department Mr. Lokhande to whom students looked up for guidance.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I have genuine interest in civil engineering. The faculty student ration is 1:50. Our faculties are well qualified they are master's degree holders in design and structural engineering. Some of them are PhD holders and many of them have done their master's from NIT and IIT. Term exams are scheduled after every 2 months. it is easy to pass because it consists of 30 marks only.
