My Experience at IISER Behrampur

I applied for St. Pauls' College in Kolkata and Presidency University and I was selcted in their lists. I was thinking of taking a drop for applying to ISI, but my IAT results were good enough to get me placed here. Since I am interested in mathematics research, and this college was pretty close to West Bengal, I chose it since IISERS already have a good repuations for being elite for research in India. While Presidency could have been good for Mathematics, I only managed to get a seat in Physics there instead, and since the first two years of IISER have multi-discliplinary studies, I decided to join lest I change my opinion on my majors later. The admission for this college is primarily done by the IAT exams, which is the preferred way. Students can also apply via JEE Advanced, but this pathway is not as popular. When I was selected, only droppers upto first year and recent high school graduates could apply. Several rounds of admissions are held, where there is a cutoff rank for getting into any of the IISERS. The lowest it went arounf my time was around rank 3000. From the 8th standard, I have been interested to stude in either NISER or IISER. I had made up my mind since then that I would do research in any of the fields. So, I gave the entrance test for both IISER (IAT) and NISER (NESt). I was not selected in NISER. I managed to get a seat in IISER. among the seven IISERs, I chose IISER Berhampur because it was the closest from my native place and it's campus plan was the best of all the IISERs. I also gave JEE and NEET like any other student. I could have even enrolled in a good engineering college, but I was hoping to find a seat here. The results of IAT and Nest were far later than JEE. I was ready to take a drop for the next time if my selection didn't happen. But seccessfully i was selected on my first attempt and came to IISER Berhampur. Well, IISER recruits students from a test named IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) which is a competitive exam just like JEE or NEET. It is a computer based test (CBT). The questions are from 12th standard Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Eligibility criteria- Must secure atleast 60% marks in 12th board exams. I gave many exams including jee mains,jee advanced, comedk , Kalinga,and I qualified every exam except jee advanced.i was selected for Akgec gaziabad through jee mains score, dsc Bengaluru through comedk , KIIT through Kalinga entrance exam and in all these institute I was selected for cse but I prefer iiser berhampur because here we are given insight full knowledge of python, matlabs, are the research based circullam . I got heritage enginnering college is kolkata, i did not go due to lesser scope in phd and reserch prospects, where as hit was an enginnering college, iiser berhampur is a full fledged institutes based on research. i got rejection for mannier better colleges like iits and nits, also i didnt choose some collge due to branches, overall this was the best college i got....Read More

If you had PCMB in 10+2 then you can apply for this course through IISER aptitude test.Application form is generally out in late May and exam happens around middle of June.Reservation benefits are just as same as other institutions in this country...Read More

There are three channels to get admissions from- IAT, KVPY, and JEE Advanced, with 25% seats for KVPY and JEE and the rest for IAT. Eligibility to appear in these exams (JEE, IAT): Fresh 12th graduate or dropper for 1 year. One can find the application form, fees, and dates by checking the official IISER admissions website. The portal opens around April each year. This year (2023), the application portal will open on 15th April and the entrance examination (IAT) is scheduled to be on 17 June. You can check the NTA website for JEE dates and the KVPY website for the KVPY exam. I suggest going for IAT as it's the easiest exam among these three and also reserves the highest number of seats. Reservation benefits: If you belong to SC/ST, you have to pay no tuition fees. But the rest of the fees will be applicable.
