Remarks
Just Superb, Nothing Short of Supreme. It was a wonderful experience for those year I spent during 1985 - 1989. It is the only college ranked much upper from many IITs. I am proud that I had opportunity to get my Engineering from such a world class college.
Course Curriculum Overview
It was just fantastic, Lots of Workshops and real life time teachings. ISOs used in Concrete Design and other Design of Steel Structures. In First year we had common Engineering Subjects like Strength of Material, Mechanics, Workshop technology etc which were really proven to build a solid foundation for Engineering Applications.
Placement Experience
Here I would like to say that Employment Generation & Orientation was Gap. We had only 2 - 3 campus interviews. at the year of 1989, there were very few private organizations. So considering 30 years back scenario, It was OK. That was the time, when everybody was looking towards Government Job. Unfortunately that time there was a Special Drive to fill the posts of SCs & STs. So most of the job published at the time went to that class only. I am still attached with college Alumina. NDDB, Amul, HCL had visited our campus but I could not get in. However, based on teachings, I got job at Delhi just after completion.
College Events
Lots of Technical Fests like Automechanica, Buidnest were being organised and apart from that CRESENDO & INCIDENT were 2 Cultural festivals. When we took admission It was Silver Jubilee Year. So All Silver Jubilee Functions were organised in 1985 & 1986. On 1st November, Every year I used to participate and win Kannad Speaking for Non-Kanadigas.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It was just free almost. Actually there were two streams on Fee & Scholarships. Everyone has to undergo an exam and after securing above a minimum marks, if candidate financial condition was not good (Below 1 Lakh / Annually), Merit Cum Means scholarship of Rs. 500/ month Plus Full Fee Exemption While for us, since our Father earning was little higher, we used to get full fee exemption.
Fees and Financial Aid
As I said earlier, I was eligible for Merit Scholarship and after clearing the exam, I have full fee exemption. The test for this scholarship was having some 50 questions based on 12th syllabus on Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. It was not really very tough.
Campus Life
At the time of 1985 - 1989 when I had passed my Engineering Graduation, It was very different situation as compare today with reference to Girls / Boys ratio. In my class of 48 students, there were only 4 girl students. There were lots of recreational activities. Various Hobby Clubs were there at Hostel campus. But Yes, Less on Sports front. There used to be debate sessions where I used to participates on current Affairs.
Hostel Facilities
Yes, It was compulsory. First year Room was shared by 3 people, 2nd Year & 3rd year, Single Room was shared by 2 students while in Final year, It was single occupancy room. Rental per semester was Rs. 3000. for First 3 Year while for Final year It was Rs. 5000.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni Network Formal and Informal in teh form of WhatsApp group has been established. We used to meet once in 5 - 6 months. On our Silver Jubilee passing we met at our collge campus, exchanged our whereabouts etc.
Admission
We had Common Entrance Test for Engineering which was taken by MLNREC, Allahabad at that time 1985. At that time, 1985, there were 17 Regional Engineering Colleges and 50% of seats were being filled by Local state students and rest 50% from other states. I had qualified Common Entrance test conducted by REC Allahabad and opted Karnataka REC. Later on All RECs have been converted in to NITs.
Faculty
We had Professor which were world renowned and state of art Labs and Workshops. In Geology We had Prof Gurrupa who was President Medal, Prof. G. Ranganna who was Consultant to Ministry of Water resources. All of our Professor and sansai were having Doctorate degree and mostly from Abroad Universities. Rest were from IITs, They good good Practical knowledge also.
