Remarks
Thapar is a very popular and old university. The cutoffs might be low now, but the placements are still on point. The college environment and atmosphere is very friendly and fun loving and extra curricular are really nice, which i feel is very important for student's overall personality growth
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum for my branch was pretty much updated to the standards, I know this because I appeared for a government exam (technical post) and the syllabus for the exam aligned with what I studied in college. Industrial exposure is something that is limited for the students of Thapar. As the college is in Patiala, there are no industrial or corporate dives in TU. You can find those in many colleges of Delhi, Mumbai. Faculty of TU is one of the best in Punjab, all are graduates or post graduates from IITs and NITs. My favourite faculty was Dr. Vishal Srivastav (EIED)
Internships Opportunities
Ive internship for Deloitte for my 6 months internship at the Bangalore office. I was placed on campus, intern + full time, and my stipend was 25,000.
Placement Experience
Thapar University is still in the league of top University just because of its placement cell. The placement cell of the college has strong ties with most of the major companies. Top companies recruiting from Thapar are Samsung, Deloitte, JP Morgan, Reliance, Wipro, Standard Chartered, Maruti, Honda, Google, etc. alumni network is strong and you’ll always find a Thapar alumni working for any firm you’re trying to apply. I myself work at Deloitte and I’ve referred a couple of my juniors.
College Events
Campus events such as Saturnalia, Mudra, Urja used to be good but you cannot compare them from other engineering colleges like SRM or VIT. The main issue being the college is in a small town, Patiala, and sponsorships were rare. The fests in Thapar are mid-scale fests
Campus Life
Thapar University has recently been up scaling their infrastructure. The library, auditoriums, hostels, blocks are really nice and the sports infrastructure is EXCELLENT. There are very few colleges in India where you can find a proper 400m synthetic athletics track, football, cricket grounds, tennis courts (6) and basketball courts (6).
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are available for every student. I recommend one should live inside the campus hostels only as they are very nice and cheaper as compared to PGs in Patiala (10k/mo). Hostel life is the best part of the whole journey and there are fee hostels like J, iconic, and K hostel which are one of the best hostels you'll find in any engineering college. Hostel facilities for girls are also very nice and safe.
