Remarks
The University Campus is in Delhi. It was accessible by Metro. And the course syllabus was very appropriate covering various aspects. It is a government University so it has lower fees compared to a private university in Delhi providing the same course. Teachers are well qualified. The course structure is similar to the one required for UGC NET entrance exam , so majority part is covered in the classroom. Low student intake means more attention. Also this is a professional course so you are job ready. Though there is no campus placement.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum covers various aspects of Environmental issue from air pollution to waste management taught by an expert faculty and hands on practical experience. The course also offers a practical field trip for all students of first year. Also there is a six month dissertation/ training period where one can explore further options of research or other profession. All the teachers were expert in their own field and just not gave any text book knowledge but also got us to know the practical side of things being taught. The batch went to trip to a waste Management Plant on a field trip to Goa, to understand their waste disposal mechanism. Also there were workshops organized to keep the student abreast with current policies eg. There was a workshop organised on Diwali about Air pollution in 2017, with chairman CPCB coming to deliver the presentation.
Internships Opportunities
I did an internship at Delhi Jal Board for 1.5 months. No stipend was provided.
Placement Experience
There was no placement cell for our batch. All students got themselves employed. Though faculties may come in for help. But it depends on the faculty and student. If the faculty has some resources and the student fits in, there may be opportunities.
College Events
Each batch is taken on atleast a week long field trip. The batch of 2016-2018 went to Goa. This is done to provide experiential learning. Also workshops were organised by the department so students would only organise the event. Every Department had its own activity going on. For example the Department of Environmental Management would organise a conference on Environmental issues every year. Such activities were organised by other departments as well.
Campus Life
Since the Department was in the mani Campus of University in Dwarka, students were provided with basic amenities of classroom infra and necessities. Although at times the washrooms would not be clean. There was availablity of chilled water in water coolers during summers. The canteen had enough space on the ground and first floor to accomodate about 100-150 students at one time. Also the first floor of canteen was equipped with an air conditioner. Thee are hostels also 2- girls and 2- boys. Though I was a day scholar, the hostellers said that the hostel rooms were really good. And cleanliness was maintained. Also the campus is really green with really big fields. WiFi was available 24*7. Libraries did not have adequate books at times. And there was one day where you could go and grab books for book bank but then It seemed like a race among students to grab the book at the earliest. If the book had multiple copies it was alright but if the book had few copies it would be really difficult to study. In such cases the faculty would usually share the book if they had a digital or hard copy.
