Neetha Elizabeth Richard's Review On Government Law College, Kochi

GLCE is one of the top-most legal institution in Kerala with the best resource, especially the expert faculties who are top in their professional merits. It is the first and thus, oldest legal institution of our State, established in 1874, where the Erstwhile State of Cochin Legislative Assembly held its sittings and debated laws that decided the fate of Kerala. A lot of renowned jurists and Chief Justices, Judges, lawyers and successful persons have emerged out of this classic institution. It was my dream to study law at a State owned college, and I got into this awesome college with its wonderful atmosphere and above all, best location which is so close to the District Court Complex and The High Court of Kerala!

We are affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Our course curriculum for the batch 2016-2021 was newly devised as we are the first batch in our college pursuing a B. Com. LL. B (Hons.) degree. It was fairly new, but we’ll balanced between law and B. Com. subjects, equipping in all major fields of accounting and basic management and its legal sides too, while the law was full on the whole of what a future lawyer would need to be a good guide towards justice. Academically, as our college is one of the first to feed on the Top Rank holders in KLEE every year, we get the best of the best students in our college. Everyone is studious, has an exceptionally good power in the English and the local language, and even in Hindi. There is an undercurrent of competition among students that keeps getting better each time the final results are published, gaining our college 1st 2nd and 3rd ranks every year for past several years in a row now.

We do not have an efficient placement cell. However, we have the benefit of greater exposure due to our location in the city, and the institution is so famed that we are eventually favoured by most Firms and Law Units, seeing our merit.

Various Centres of Law are set up like the CLGPS, CML to mention two, which focuses on the Policy studies and Medical Law respectively and organises National Seminars, Workshops, Discussions, Deliberations and even competition in our institutions, all of which are having high level of participation, and also have as National and int’l speakers, judges, activists, Advocates, professors and authors, who are all renowned and experts in the fields on which the event is based. For extracurricular activities, we have Intra college events every year like Movie Fest, Sports Fest, Arts Fest, all of which are under the auspices of respective clubs, conducted without missing class hours and in a very attractive and efficient manner by their leaders. Inter college fests like Nayam that happened every year in our college is a grand success each year with hundreds of students participating across the State and even some from other states do join us. The ever famous TS Venkateshwara Iyer National Moot Court Competition is a our most prestigious event of the year, along with all the various Trial Court competitions and seminars workshop mention above. GLCE believes in a holistic approach toward development of the future lawyers by not just rot learning the law that guides the country, but by seeing the real world and people, with all their problems and how to solve it in the real time.

The library, research rooms, Central hall, moot hall, auditoriums, student recreation spaces, canteen and the Cyber room- each of these brings the students and faculty closer in various rendezvous topics of dialogues and that really helps really. Basketball court, Badminton court, Football ground, Volleyball court etc are there for sports and such fitness related recreations. College has WiFi facility and also has the Cyber Room for all the necessary browsing and online searches, printing, Xerox etc. Heins Online, ManuPatra, SCC Online etc are a few of the many Online Legal Journal and Search engines that are subscribed by the college for the exclusive use of its students for enhancing their academic excellence. Apart from Online Library, our Physical Library is massive, with several National and International digests, journals, caselaws, fact books, reports and texts from world famous authors and publishers. The systematised book management by librarians makes all the books neatly maintained and available in times of need.
