Remarks

Summing it up, SIT, Siliguri is a good place to study only if you are serious enough about gaining knowledge. There is nothing very special about this college. Its just a normal engineering college on the foothills of darjeeling.

Entrance Preview

I entered through west bengal joint entrance examination (WBJEE)My rank was 21385. I opted for this college because it was the best according to my score. Although i was getting a better college but the department was not of my choice. So i decided to compromise with the college but not the stream. Also the climate of siliguri was good.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course curriculum was simple and straight forward like any other college in india. The course was divided into theoretical and practical parts. but in my college focus was given more to theoretical papers which according to me is a little unjustified.Along with the core papers several elective papers were also taught like Economics, Environmental studies, values and ethics etc

Internships Opportunities

Our college did not offer any internship. Although various institutes came to our college to provide training for various fields. There was no stipend but we were given a proper training.

Placement Experience

1

Placement in our college was not upto the mark. TCS was the main recruiter from our college And several other smaller companies also came for placements. Particularly in my batch the placement was horrible. Only 20-25 student were placed out of 400.Major Companies:TCS, IBM, Odessa Technologies, L&T Infotech, Satyam Tech, Shreeram finance etc.

College Events

4

College was very good in socials events part. Yearly fests (SITEX ) was celebrated and and we had a good time in it. Annual sports, science fests etc were also organised. Several other celebartions were also held on certain special ocassions.

Fee Structure And Facilities

According to me it was expensive for a college of its stature. They took 40000 rupees per semester. Out of which 5000 was library charges, that makes it 40000 thousand for books in 4 years.

Fees and Financial Aid

No scholarship was offered by the college, neither there was any loan facility. We had to apply for loans on our own responsibility and scholarships were provided by the state government if eligible.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus life was altogether very good. Mostly because of the people i met there. Sports and cultural activities were organised yearly along with science fests and other programmes.

Hostel Facilities

0.5

Hostel facilities were horrible. Food was unhygienic and filthy. No proper hostel was provided by the college. students preferred staying in PGs and local hostels

Alumni/Alumna

No proper alumni network. But we remain connected using facebook and other social media sources. The seniors are very helpful and motivating for better life and career.

Exam Structure

We had 2 internal exams per semester and a final semester exam which consisted of practical and theory papers. So in total we had 4 internals and 2 semester exams in an year

Faculty

4

Faculty in our college was highly qualified and had good hold on their papers. They went ahead of the prescribed curriculum and gave us knowledge from their experiences.

I don't have idea about the placements since I'm in first year now. But I talked to a senior and got to know that many got multiple offers in 4th year. I also head that packages are around 4 lpa which is a decent and also a rise than the previous year.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
