UPES provides the industry specialized course which is the need of an hour. UPES emerged as an innovative institution offering industry-focused specialized graduate, post graduate and doctoral programs in key areas such as Energy, Infrastructure, Transportation, Information Technology, Design, Planning & Architecture, Public Policy and Legal studies. I took CAT as well MAT and got admitted through MAT Score. I Scored 97 percentile. Being an Engineering Graduate, I choose to go for MBA (Power Management) rather than any other general MBA course since it gives me technical insights of power sector besides the management concepts. This course is specialized for engineering graduates.

Course curriculum consists of 1.) Management Subjects like Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Operations, Materials Management etc. 2.) Power Sector Subjects like Power Generation, Transmission, Distribution and Power Trading, Regulatory Affairs, Open Access etc.

All of the students easily get internship in power sector companies. I did the same at Uttaranchal Renewal Energy Development Agency (UREDA) and worked on Hydro Power Plants in Uttarakhand.

Ours was the first batch and most students got placed in power sector companies mainly distribution companies like NDPL, BSES, Infra based companies like Reliance infra, consultancies like ABPS infra, DCM Sriram, PWC, IT Power etc.Other conmapies came for campus placement are Financial Technologies, HCL infosystem, HCL tech, NPCL, Silgate Technologies etc.

There were many technical as well cultural fests organized at the university. Annual function named as Uurja. Students get together to celebrate the function by performing in various cultural, technical and social events. There are performances like Music, Dancing, Paper Presentation, Debate, Model Making, Robotic Competition, Skits, Drama, etc.

Fees structure is around 2.5 lac per semester. But loan assistance is provided to students from various banks. 25% concession on Tuition Fee for Uttarakhand domicile students on merit-cum-means basis, to be decided by the University, subject to fulfillment of the following conditions by the student.

UPES currently offers scholarships (part and full tuition fee waiver) in specific programs, as decided by the University from time to time. This may differ from year to year and is decided after the students complete their registration at the beginning of each academic year. UPES has a formal tie-up with two of Indiaﾒs leading nationalized banks. State Bank of India and Oriental Bank of Commerce are there to facilitate studentsﾒ access to easy education loans. The Education loans provide coverage for expenses including program fees and hostel fees.

The holistic development and welfare of students at UPES is the responsibility of Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA). It organizes various sporting events at regular intervals. The University has adequate sports infrastructure and multipurpose play field for sports like football, hockey, cricket, handball, athletics and volleyball and basketball courts. The students also get a chance to participate in inter-state and national level games besides participating in activities and games being held within the campus.

There are five hostel blocks at UPES with a bed capacity of around 1000 students. There are two hostels which provide best residential facilities, conducive to comfortable living and learning in the salubrious environment of Dehradun. Hostels have Wi Fi facility for learning and round the clock CCTV monitoring for security. Common room provides the place to relax and study. 24X7 power back up and solar power water heaters facility exist. The hostels have modern messes, serving nutritious and hygienic meals.

Classes are very hectic due to lot of visiting faculties. Exams are semester wise. But lot of internal tests and exams are conducted like case studies, group discussions are part of daily life.

There were two type of faculty members one is permanent who are mainly responsible for teaching management subjects and other is visiting faculty i.e. experienced industry personnel who have practical insights of power sector.
