I have very good remarks about management. IIT Madras is being ranked as the best institute in India and 47th in the World. The quality of work that ensured in the institute in commendable.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is research-based and it is divided semester wise. Research is mandatory and has more weightage than course work. The approach of choosing a problem, by doing various literature survey as well as talking to a lot of users, strategically breaking down the problem to small parts in research actually helped me alot in solving problems in my profeesion.
Placement Experience
IIT Madras is known for its best placements and internships. I have been a visiting scholar at Purdue University USA. The eligible students should register in the placement portal and interested companies. Resume shortlist, Aptitude exam followed by 2-3 rounds of interviews per company are the steps followed
College Events
Sarang and Shaastra are the biggest cultural and tech fest of IIT Madras. It's like a country festival and participants are all over the country. All the state festivals are also being organized in the campus. Shaastra is mainly focussed on competitions like Debate, group discussions, hackathons, robotics, laser show, quizzes, etc. It invites participants from all over the country. Saarang is the cultural fest where all the famous artists all over the world perform. A lot of competitions like street dance, group dance, singing, instrumental music, bands, etc are conducted.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Since this is a govt institution fees are nominal. On top of its monthly stipends are also available. The fee per year was 20000 INR and the mode of payment was Demand draft. The admission is purely base on merit and there is no other way to get into IIT.
Fees and Financial Aid
All the students getting into IIT for masters will get the scholarship per month. So. I haven't opted for any loans.
Campus Life
The male population is definitely high when compared to females. Taking about extracurricular activities, it was excellent. The courts, swimming pools, etc were international levels. Would rate is 10/10. There are various tournaments that occur in the institution which are at the college level as well as the country level.
Hostel Facilities
Yes. It is a residential college and has opted for staying. The rooms are single and it is fully furnished. The fees per semester (6 months) were around 15000 includes accommodation and food. The food is for 4 times and has a minimum of 5 items per meal. It is clean and tidy. Every hostel has it's own library, playing area, washing machine, etc.
Alumni/Alumna
The Alumni network, students and teachers are really helpful. There is a website that's created for the Alumni wherein you could be a part of it and get various news articles, job openings, and get people to work with you.
Admission
There are three level entries to get into IIT. One is the GATE exam which is all India level. The top-scored students can they apply to IITs. I applied to IIT Madras, where there was an exam to screen the top applicants as well as an interview post the exam screening. It took around 2-3 months for all the processes to complete. I have joined for M.S in Hydrology and Water Resources and like this course, because it is close to the environment and research-oriented.
Faculty
Per day, there would be 4-5 lectures and the course is for 2.5 years (till you defend your thesis and can extend up to 5 years). All the profeesors are very experienced and research-oriented. The approach of the solutions is given weightage and not just the final answer. So copying will not work here.
